5 Super Apps to Help Working Moms Who Drive « Car Clique

Ongoing rapid technological developments have truly revolutionized the world. It gives us goose bumps when we look at some jaw dropping advancements today that couldn’t have imagined just five or ten years ago.

Remember when mobile phones were launched? They were pretty big in size, heavy and the only benefits it offered were the ability to call and â€" eventually, text. But today things are much different with smartphones. Not only can users enjoy the benefit of calling and texting but women also enjoy web browsing and shop online. No matter who you are and what you do, it’s easy to find and download the perfect app that matches your needs and offers the benefits you are looking for.

Juggling work, home management, dropping off the kids and de-stressing is not easy. However, thanks to a range of apps, working moms can strike a greater work life balance. Or, at least save a few extra minutes to help optimize her “time management”.

Our favorite super apps designed to help working moms who drive to work include:

1. Dragon Dictation: This app uses voice recognition to type text messages, create emails and compile to do lists. It allows working mothers to run office errands on the go without touching the screen or diverting their attention while driving. This is a free voice-to-text app available at Apple’s iTunes store and can run on iPhone and other iOS based devices.

2. Waze App: This is a mapping, traffic and a navigation application. It helps cut down drive time and provides shortcuts to reach to your desired destination. It comes in handy when women are driving to new locations alone for the first time and need directions so they don’t get lost. Waze is one of the biggest communities of traffic centered forums where real time information is shared to help you save time and gas money. Downloaded for free on all platforms including iOS, Android and Windows.

3. PayByPhone App: This app is truly handy for working moms who have to rush into meetings and don’t have time to pay the parking meters. Set up an account, enter license plate number, location and how long will the car be parked at the desired location and pay for it. Also, it allows the parking time to be extended, if needed. Download PayByPhone app on your iPhone, Android or Blackberry free of cost.

4. Intuition Mom’s Personal Assistant App: Like the name suggest, this app acts like your virtual personal assistant. It is exclusively designed for busy moms. Use this app to get and stay organized, keep track of all your shopping lists, things to do + appointments. With this app you can prioritize and run errands and manage your time efficiently. Downloaded for free. Is compatible on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPhone 3 G and iPad.

5. DropBox: This app is compatible with all platforms like Apple, Blackberry and Android and is free. Save all your important business documents, files, videos and photos in this app. With this app, all your important files are at your fingertips. Who needs an external drive anymore?

Record Keeper and World Wide Words

Pocket Gamer reports [1] that two new free-to-play Final Fantasy games from Square Enix [2]  have sneaked their way onto the App Store in Japan â€" Final Fantasy: Record Keeper [3] and Final Fantasy: World Wide Words [4] .

In Record Keeper, players take on the role of an Apprentice that jumps into paintings that take them to famous scenes from previous games in the series. The battle system is similar to that found in Final Fantasy: All The Bravest [5] , with players getting to fight alongside Cloud Strife, Zidane Tribal, Luneth, and more.

Meanwhile, the word-battling RPG World Wide Words features the same art style as Theatrhythm Final Fantasy [6] , with players given the task of typing out words to perform attacks against monsters and fast typing rewarded with more powerful attacks.

Nothing has been announced regarding the release of either of these games outside of Japan, but both can be found on the Japanese App Store now and are free to download.

iOS 8 HealthKit-compatible Apps Hit the App Store [Updated]

Now that iOS 8.0.2 is out with support for the Health app enabled, third-party developers are starting to roll out their apps with HealthKit support. The list isn't very long yet, but it is growing so we expect to see more apps showing up soon.

Apple's Health app is open for business thanks to iOS 8.0.2Apple's Health app is open for business thanks to iOS 8.0.2

HealthKit works as a common platform and conduit for collecting health, fitness, and medical-related data from apps from devices connected to your iPhone. That data can be viewed in iOS 8's Health app so you can see all of that information together and hopefully learn more about yourself than you could by viewing the data as segregated bits.

Apple promised Health support with the launch of iOS 8 earlier this month, but later said that would come in an update. iOS 8.0.1 with Health and HealthKit support rolled out a week after iOS 8 was released, but was quickly pulled because it disabled Touch ID along with cell service in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Now that iOS 8.0.2 is available, we can start trying out Health-compatible apps, and we don't have to worry about our phone features disappearing in the process.

Carrot Fit Carrot Fit tracks your workouts and what you eat, then offers you rewards or light-hearted shaming depending on your performance. Version 3.1.1 adds HealthKit support, so now you can monitor your progress in Apple's Health app. Carrot Fit [1] costs US$2.99.

FitPort Like Apple's own Health app, FitPort is a sort of dashboard showing an overview of your health and fitness activities. The app tracks the same sorts of data such as steps, how far you walk or run, calories burned, and weight. Instead of working as a data supplier to Health, FitPort is an alternative. FitPort [2] costs $1.99.

Lark The Lark app aims to collect your fitness and activity data from multiple sources thanks to HealthKit, and then present that information in a meaningful way that helps improve your overall life. It can log and analyze step counts and other activities logged by your iPhone's M7 or M8 motion coprocessor, tracks sleep patterns, and lets you log what you eat, then presents its suggestions for improvement in a conversational form. Lark [3] is a free App Store download.

MotionX 24/7 Tracking sleep patterns can help improve your overall sleep quality. MotionX 24/7 uses your iPhone's motion sensor and microphone to log when your sleeping well, when you're restless, and then uses that information to wake you at the appropriate point in your sleep cycle. Version 9.3 adds the ability to send your sleep data to Apple's Health app. MotionX 24/7 [4] is priced at $0.99.

MyFitnessPal Logging what you eat and tracking your eating habits is MyFitnessPal's, well, bread and butter. Version 5.6.6 lets you send your weight, exercise logs, and mea summaries to Apple's Health app via HealthKit. MyFitnessPal [5] is free.

Patient IO If your doctor is part of the Patient IO network, you can use the Patient IO app to get health-related information and treatment instructions, reminders for your health tasks, and more. The data you collect through Patient IO can be shared with your doctors, too, thanks to the app's HealthKit support. Patient IO [6] is free, but your doctor must support the system for you to use the app.

UP Jawbone's new UP app tracks your dail step count and lets you log what you eat, workouts, sleep, and more even if you don't use an Up or Up24 fitness tracker. It also helps set personal fitness goals, and lets you share your stats with friends for motivation. The app links to Health to collect your activities and displays the data in its own interface. UP is a free download.

WebMD WebMD is known for its health-related content, symptom-checking tools and medicine database, but the service's iPhone app does more by helping track your overall health and fitness. Version 5.3.3 added HealthKit support so you can get, as WebMD calls it, "actionable insights on your health data." WebMD [7] is free.

Yummly Your iPhone can be your never ending cook book thanks to the huge recipe database Yummly offers. The app also sends nutrition information for what you eat â€" assuming you're meals are Yummly recipes. Yummly [8] is free at Apple's iTunes-based App Store.

Zova Zova offers workouts geared just for women. It includes more than 250 workout plans for stretching and circuits, strength training, HIIT, 7-minute workouts, and cardio fitness. The app tracks your workouts and fitness progress, and has been updated to support HealthKit, too. Zova [9] is a free download.

More apps will be rolling out regularly now that iOS 8.0.2 is available. We'll keep adding those apps to the list as we find them. Have you found any HealthKit-compatible apps? Let us know.

Apple Watch is headed to Paris for Fashion Week

Apple Watch passbook apple pay

Apple has teamed up with Colette [1] , the famous Parisian boutique, on a promotional event involving a “one day only experience” on September 30 from 11:00am to 7:00pm local time at the at fashion retailer’s gallery on rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, French blog Macplus reported [2] Monday [Google Translate [3] ].

At the same time, members of the company’s industrial design team are headed to Paris Fashion Week, vaguely indicating that the company’s wearable device, the Apple Watch , could play a role at the semi-annual clothing trade show. [4]

The one-day event is being teased on the official Colette website [5] with graphics seen below that doesn’t seem to offer much in terms of details right now.

Colette’s three-story 8,000 square feet concept store in Paris features an exhibition space, bookshop and even a water bar serving more than a hundred brands of bottled water.

Colette store (Paris 001)

As the Apple Watch is being billed as a fashionable wearable device, the promotional event with the brick-and-click clothing and accessory retailer would make sense, even more so in light of Apple’s hiring of the fashion-conscious (former) Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts, who as SVP of Retail now manages both Apple’s online and offline stores.

While we’re speculating, Apple and Coulette may be planning to demo Apple Pay with Apple Watch, or perhaps show off third-party fashionable watch bands for the product.

The seven bigger dots in the center of the invitation seen below resemble somewhat the Apple Watch’s zoomed out Home screen.

Apple and Colette (invite 001)

Fashion Week is currently held in the Carrousel du Louvre, as well as at various other venues throughout Paris. It’s also curious that a few Apple designers departed for Paris Fashion Week yesterday, as noted by MacRumors forum member ”Rogifan“ [6] .

The designers apparently travelled with Apple’s chief of all design Jony Ive and newly-hired Marc Newson on the private jet Ive bought from Steve Jobs’s widow.

Mikael Silvanto (Apple Watch 002)

Apple industrial design team member Mikael Silvanto [7] has even shared photographs on Instagram taken aboard the plane (above) and in Paris (below). One particular image seen right below pictures Silvanto wearing Apple Watch at a meal, a cigarette in his mouth.

Even more curiously, Silvanto took the photos and his whole Instagram private soon after Apple blogs shared his images. Maybe because of the cigarette?

Mikael Silvanto (Apple Watch 001)

At any rate, at least we can ascertain that prominent Apple designers and their Apple Watches are now in Paris. Whether or not they’re headed to the Colette event tomorrow or for Paris Fashion Week, which runs from September 23 through October 1, is anyone’s guess.

I will be surprised if the Apple Watch doesn’t get some significant stage time during Paris Fashion Week (I think the gizmo will be the star of the show) given Apple saw fit to dispatch its brightest designers to Paris.

Apple Watch is due in early-2015 starting at $349, but the company is yet to start accepting pre-orders for the device.

Let the speculation game begin: if you have your own theory about these developments, feel free to chime in with your observations down in the comments.
