ToDoNotes 2 is out with iOS 6 support

todonotes 2

In the summer of 2011, jailbreak developers participated in a cool project called tweak week . Several devs each took a week, and released one new jailbreak tweak everyday. It went on for 3+ months, and we got several great tweaks out of it.

One of those tweaks was ToDoNotes, by TwitkaFly developer moeseth, which added a notepad to the Spotlight page that talked with the Notes app, giving you quick access to your memos. And version 2 just came out with iOS 6 support…

Here’s our review of the original tweak:

For the most part, version 2 of the tweak is exactly like the first. There’s no settings to configure, or icons to worry about. Once installed, just navigate to your device’s Spotlight page and you should see what looks like the outline of a notepad.

The only thing that has changed in ToDoNotes 2 is the way that you add notes to the Spotlight page. Instead of merely tapping the share icon at the bottom of the Notes app, you have to hold it down to access the ‘Push to ToDoNotes’ option.

I usually disable my Spotlight page, as I haven’t quite figured out a good use for it yet. But if you frequently use the search tool, this could come in handy for things like todo lists, telephone messages and anything else you need to reference quickly.

If you’re interested, you can find ToDoNotes 2 in Cydia, in the BigBoss repo, for free.

Ninja Fish iPhone 5 Game Free Download | Hacks of Download

Apple’s iPhone burst onto the scene with much fanfare in June 2007, and instantly the other so-called smartphones appeared an entire ton dumber. The streamlined black iPhone casts a long shadow over the smartphone landscape. For starters, it’s much even more than a phone.
iPhone is poised to do to the mobile telephone market exactly what the iPod did to the digital media player market. Targeted primarily to high-end customers and small-business managers, iPhone transforms mobile phone usage from a task into a delight. Device producers long ago changed stodgy gray menus with color, animated images and Windows-style dialog boxes. But iPhone, powered by a sophisticated, full-fledged pc operating system â€" Mac OS X â€" delivers a ground-breaking user experience that’s the next greatest thing to making use of a “genuine” laptop.
Now, with the expected release of the latest flagship model of the iconic iPhone smartphones, the iPhone 5, many consumers are already very excited of having one. Now, if you are one of those iPhone fanatics, who want to get a hold of iPhone 5 soon, then we have good news for you.
We are giving a free iPhone 5 game. Yes you heard it right! It is the first ever game that is made specifically for iPhone 5 â€" the Ninja Fish for iPhone 5 Game Free Download.

Since it is the first ever game for iPhone 5, the developers have decided to take an extra step, and are giving it for free for a limited time only. Most probably in the next few weeks this will not be free anymore.
Now is your chance, get the Ninja Fish for iPhone 5 Game Free Download only here in gamescrack.org. Click the download button below.

JED-GO Untouchable iPhone Game Review: Cowboys vs. Zombies

JED-GO UntouchableJED GAMESGamesFreeDownload

JED-GO Untouchable is an iPhone game developed by JED GAMES. In this simplistic shooter, your goal is simple: shoot the zombies, and protect the brains.

After aliens invade a town in the Old West, Cowboy Jed must protect the artificial brains from a horde of brain-hungry zombies. As the player, you can protect artificial brains from swarms of angry zombies by using tons of different weapons, abilities and even with your pet dragon’s flaming breath!

mzl.abopurex.320x480 75 300x200 JED GO Untouchable iPhone Game Review: Cowboys vs. Zombiesmzl.pjwmydxr.320x480 75 300x200 JED GO Untouchable iPhone Game Review: Cowboys vs. Zombies

The opening animation has some translation snafus that, when paired with the energetic soundtrack, really calls to mind the infamous “All your base are belong to us” meme. Once you get past that opening animation, however, the game gets far more promising.

You need to fire upon three tiers of incoming zombies. As you progress in the game, Cowboy Jed can afford to upgrade his weapon from a simple pistol to all kinds of cool things: wizard’s staffs, spells, bazookas, lightning, and more.

mzl.qudlzlyp.320x480 75 300x200 JED GO Untouchable iPhone Game Review: Cowboys vs. Zombiesmzl.xyslldpd.320x480 75 300x200 JED GO Untouchable iPhone Game Review: Cowboys vs. Zombies

In terms of interface, the game is fairly well designed. The end of wave menus are a little cluttered, and could be streamlined to be less confusing. Overall, the shop and the game are easy enough to navigate.

One thing I really appreciate is that you are rewarded for making precise shots. You’ll fell an enemy zombie much quicker is you can consistently hit it in the head with your blasts, a feature that makes the game all the more rewarding.

With colorful character designs, a ton of cool weapons, and addictive gameplay, there are plenty of  things to like about this game. Despite a few flaws, it’s a must-try for anyone who loves shooting up the undead!

JED-GO Untouchable is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later.

Simple Mind Games iPhone Game Review: Challenging Fun!

Simple Mind GamesTom LakeGamesFreeDownload

Simple Mind Games is an iPhone game developed by Tom Lake. This game is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin: a collection of simple, yet challenging, mind games.

Test your memory and problem solving skills with these eight mini games, intelligently designed with smooth graphics and straightforward gameplay. The app is elegantly designed with a definite minimalist aesthetic.

mzl.lcqhlnez.320x480 75 168x3001 Simple Mind Games iPhone Game Review: Challenging Fun!mzl.nhdnbwij.320x480 75 168x3001 Simple Mind Games iPhone Game Review: Challenging Fun!

In Simple Mind Games, you can challenge your mind in one of eight different ways. These include tests of your knowledge in subject areas such as spelling, math, mental recall, shapes, and more. In order to get the games “Match,” “Light Reaction,” and “Mental Maths,” you will need to pay $1.99 to upgrade the app and get 5 games to enjoy.

Each game takes place in very short rounds of 60 seconds each. If you get 3 answers correct in a row, a time bonus of 5 seconds will be granted to you. Want to see how you stack up against other players? Check out the global leader board and see if you can beat the top scores!

With such a diverse array of sections, there are enough different subjects here to ensure that each player can find a topic that they will enjoy being tested on. Let’s face it: in an age of smartphones, most of us could use an excuse to practice our rusty mental math skills a bit.

Suitable for both kids and adults, Simple Mind Games is a great way to train your brain, keep sharp, and stave off age-related mental decay. If you love brainteasers or general knowledge, this app will keep you on your toes.

Simple Mind Games is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

Best iPhone 5 Apps and Games 2013

In this post, we check out 20 of the best iPhone 5 apps for creating music and videos, editing photos, catching up on news, watching shows, being productive, and then having a break by slicing up giants, racing like a loon, and solving devious puzzles.

1. GarageBand (£2.99/$4.99)

GarageBand
Software instruments on which GarageBand relies are notoriously processor-intensive, and so the iPhone 5's added grunt makes for a stabler, faster, smoother music-making process. The wider screen is also beneficial, giving you a few extra keys when composing and enabling you to see more notes when editing MIDI.
Download GarageBand from iTunes

2. iMovie (£2.99/$4.99)

iMovie
One of the more ambitious apps on the iPhone, iMovie is a movie-making studio in your pocket. The iPhone 5's camera is great for shooting HD, and iMovie enables you to rapidly edit your creations and publish them to YouTube, Vimeo or Facebook.
Download iMovie from iTunes

3. Photogene for iPhone (£0.69/$0.99)

Photogene
Photogene's interface is a mite quirky, but we prefer it to the rather opaque iPhoto for image-editing. The app includes a number of basic editing tools, export options, special effects and other features, and on an iPhone 5 it flies.
Download from Photogene for iPhone iTunes

4. Camera+ (£0.69/$0.99)

CameraPlus
The iPhone 5 includes the best iPhone camera yet, but Apple's Camera app is pretty basic. Camera+ is therefore worth investing in if you're serious about iPhone photography.
You'll get access to touch exposure and focus, a stabiliser, a surprisingly reasonable digital zoom, in-app cropping and effects, timers and burst-shooting.
Download Camera+ from iTunes

5. iBooks (free)

iBooks
Apple's iBooks might play second fiddle to Kindle in terms of selection and pricing, but it offers a wonderful reading experience on the iPhone 5. The high-quality screen combined with its revised height (thereby providing more words per 'page') makes it a no-brainer free download.
Download iBooks from iTunes

6. Flipboard (free)

Flipboard
Although perhaps better known on tablets, Flipboard is an essential download for iPhone 5 owners. With minimal set-up, it can become your personal news magazine, filled with beautiful imagery and engaging stories.
Again, the iPhone 5's taller screen enables you to see more of anything at any one time, and the device's A6 chip ensures perfect performance.
Download Flipboard from iTunes

7. Reeder (£1.99/$2.99)

Reeder
For any iPhone 5 owner wedded to text-based content, Reeder is a must-have download. The client works seamlessly with Fever, Readability and Google Reader, enabling you to easily keep up with your favourite websites. On Apple's latest smartphone, Reeder is blazing fast and looks wonderful.
Download Reeder from iTunes

8. Tweetbot (£1.99/$2.99)

Tweetbot
Many smartphone owners would be lost without a Twitter client and Tweetbot is the best there is for iOS. The iPhone 5's taller screen improves the app from a usability standpoint, displaying more tweets and replies at any one time, along with giving the posting screen room to breathe.
Download Tweetbot from iTunes

9. BBC iPlayer (free)

iPlayer
BBC iPlayer has long been the standout on-demand TV app on iOS, and it's even better on the iPhone 5, where the picture fills the gorgeous widescreen display. It's also fantastic to see the BBC regularly trumpeting about AirPlay rather than, in the case of many of the corporation's rivals, hobbling it.
Download BBC iPlayer from iTunes

10. YouTube (free)

YouTube
The Apple-created YouTube app was unceremoniously ditched from iOS 6, but Google rose to the challenge and created a replacement. On the iPhone 5, the tall screen's great for browsing, and when flipped 90 degrees, it's perfect for watching widescreen video. Like BBC iPlayer, YouTube also supports AirPlay.
Download YouTube from iTunes

11. Google Maps (free)

Google Maps
Google's data was also ousted from iOS 6, with Apple instead using its own data, with - to be charitable - decidedly mixed results. This free app is a better bet; it's fast and beautifully designed, and the iPhone 5's bigger screen is handy for browsing and also checking out step-by-step directions. On the move, turn-by-turn on 3G also proves effective.
Download Google Maps from iTunes

12. Fantastical (£2.99/$4.99)

Fantastical
Apple's own Calendar app is fine, but Fantastical has two advantages: excellent natural input for events, and an emphasis on a list view, thereby making it easier to see upcoming appointments at a glance. Naturally, the iPhone 5 means being able to view more of these at once, which is fab (unless any of said events mention 'dentist').
Download Fantastical from iTunes

13. Soulver (£1.99/$2.99)

Soulver
With lots of people banging on about skeuomorphism in apps, it's perhaps surprising more products like Soulver don't exist. It rethinks and reinvents the calculator, making it relevant for modern computing, and the result is half spreadsheet, half 'back of an envelope'.
On the iPhone 4, it feels cramped, but on the iPhone 5 there's plenty of room for its line-based calculations.
Download Soulver from iTunes

14. 30/30 (free)

3030
Task managers are commonplace on iOS, but we have a real sweet spot for 30/30. It's beautifully designed, and the straightforward manner in which you can set up task loops makes it perfect for Pomodoro-style time management. IAPs provide extra icons or a thank-you to the author, and the iPhone 5 screen really shows off the sleek interface.
Download 30/30 from iTunes

15. Dropbox (free)

Dropbox
Apple's vision of the future is files existing within apps, which is fine if you only use few apps with few documents. For the rest of us, a file system is still required and Dropbox brings this to iOS. On the iPhone 5, the taller screen enables you to see more items at once, but even if Sir Jony Ive had given the device a two-inch square screen, we'd still be recommending Dropbox.
Download Dropbox from iTunes

16. Infinity Blade II (£4.99/$6.99)

Infinity Blade II
Swipey swordplay with RPG levelling up is what Infinity Blade II is all about. The visuals are gorgeous and the iPhone 5's full resolution is supported. Given the demanding nature of the app, you'll be grateful for that A6 chip, too.
Download Infinity Blade II from iTunes

17. Need for Speed Most Wanted (£2.99/$4.99)

Need for Speed Most Wanted
The best arcade racer for iOS, Most Wanted is a stupid amount of fun as you speed about, smashing up cops, drifting for miles, and generally being a menace on wheels.
On slower hardware, though, dropped frames periodically pull you out of the experience; no such problems on the more powerful iPhone 5.
Download Need for Speed Most Wanted from iTunes

18. Super Hexagon (£1.99/$2.99)

Super Hexagon
The perfect twitch arcade experience, Super Hexagon is a bit like playing a wire loop game in fast-forward while being flung about the place on a merry-go-round.
Although visually simple, the game is far more fluid on the iPhone 5 than other iOS devices, and the widescreen display keeps your thumbs out of the way as you wrench your tiny ship left and right, avoiding infinite walls of doom.
Download Super Hexagon from iTunes

19. Beyond Ynth (£1.49/$1.99)

Beyond Ynth
iOS isn't what comes to mind when you think of platform games, and virtual controls often make us shudder, but Beyond Ynth bucks trends by being brilliant at both.
This puzzler/platformer is all about helping a bug traverse 2D levels. Its method of travel: increasingly complex boxes. On the iPhone 5, the game looks lovely, your thumbs cover less of the screen, and you see a fraction more of what's coming.
Download Beyond Ynth from iTunes

20. The Room Pocket (free)

The Room Pocket
The most atmospheric iPad game of recent times loses little in its translation to the widescreen iPhone 5. The demanding graphics means The Room's perfectly suited to Apple's newest smartphone, and the game is a masterpiece.
You're alone in a room with a strange box, left to become immersed in a creepy, frequently chilling few hours of discovery. Our advice: avoid the hints, wear headphones and play in a dark room. Just don't blame us when you leap out of your seat.
Download The Room Pocket from iTunes

Facebook’s Android Homescreen Could Expose Apple’s Inflexibility

The mainstream has had little reason to care that Android gives developers much more customization freedom than iOS. But if Facebook’s fabled Android homescreen is a hit, the stubbornness of Apple’s closed mobile platform could be framed as a drawback after years of its cohesive design and ease being seen as assets.

Cheapness and handset/carrier choice are two of the biggest factors convincing people to pick up Android phones today. There’s its premier integration of Google’s app suite and the “rebel without an iPhone” attitude too. But Android’s flexibility for app developers has been more of a selling point for geeks and early adopters than for the average Joe.

Meanwhile, the straight forward “it just works” aspect of iOS that leans on its rigidity has made it a popular introduction to smartphones for hundreds of millions of people. There just hasn’t been a killer brand name app to grab the mainstream’s attention that depends on Android’s cooperative architecture and that iOS won’t support. No one has forced the issue of open vs closed on the common man.

But six years after the iPhone’s debut, the average mobile consumer has matured. They crave more personalization through homescreen widgets and custom launchers. They want to make their phone truly theirs. The mobile world may finally have reached the turning point where the benefits of Android’s customization outweigh the benefits of iOS’ simplicity. And it’s Facebook homescreen for Android that could crystallize this moment.

Android Launcher

Last week, Facebook sent out invites to a big press event to “see our new home on Android”. My sources got us the scoop that Facebook plans to unveil a new homescreen for Android that pipes in its news feed content and notifications for instant access. We’re told this experience will be debuted on an HTC handset running a version of Android that’s been modified by Facebook. The homescreen replacement is also likely to make its way to other handsets, either in the form a launcher app that can run on standard Android builds, or through Facebook partnerships with other OEMs.

The kicker is that Facebook’s homescreen cannot run on iOS as it exists today.

Now, for any of this to actually alter the mobile landscape, Facebook “Home” as it may be called will have to be a real success. Not just “Oh that looks cool”, but “I need to have that on my phone”. A lot people will never say that, because they just don’t care that much about Facebook. Beyond that, it may be tough to add a lot of value on top of the full-featured Facebook For Android app that’s just a few taps away.

Still, it’s possible that Facebook’ heads up display, a sixth sense for your social life , could be good enough to shift the balance in the Game Of Phones. Even if not directly or immediately, the mere existence of Facebook Home could bring the open/closed debate into the sphere of public consciousness. In that sense, it could at least begin to generate momentum for Android’s “do as you please” ecosystem.

Apple is typically resistant to diverging from its roadmap to head off potential threats. As I’ve said, Apple doesn’t care what competitors do . But if it stays locked down, we might outgrow its hand-holding. For all Google’s talk off Android being open, it could take Facebook to make us realize its liberty we really want.

Facebook’s “Home” On Android Could Give You A Sixth Sense For Your Social Life

February 1, 2004

NASDAQ:FB

Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over 1 billion monthly active users. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004, initially as an exclusive network for Harvard students. It was a huge hit: in 2 weeks, half of the schools in the Boston area began demanding a Facebook network. Zuckerberg immediately recruited his friends Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin to help build Facebook, and within four months, Facebook added 30 more college networks. Add functionality to the AssistiveTouch feature with MyAssistive

myassistive 1

Buried deep in the iOS Settings app, at the bottom of the Accessibility window, is a feature called AssistiveTouch . Apple built this tool to make its mobile devices more accessible to users with impaired physical or motor skills.

Enabling the feature adds a tiny icon to your device’s screen that typically, when tapped, opens a menu with shortcuts for a variety of system functions. But with the new MyAssistive jailbreak tweak, you can change that…

MyAssistive is a simple little utility that lets you customize the AssistiveTouch button to your liking. You can change where it’s positioned on your device’s screen, the color of its menu icons and, most importantly, what it does.

Once installed, all of these options can be configured from within your Settings app. There’s toggles for enabling the tweak, turning off its ‘snap to position’ and ‘hide’ functions, and a menu of actions you can assign to the button.

myassistive 2

The list of actions is long, and includes toggle app switcher, toggle Siri, toggle voice control, take screenshot, triple click, adjust volume, mute, respring, and toggle LED flash. Remember to enable AssistiveTouch before trying them.

Overall I like MyAssistive, as it offers quick access to some useful functions. But I have a few issues with it. One, you can only assign one action to the button at a time. And two, I haven’t found a spot to put it where it’s not in the way.

So I’ll probably be sticking with tweaks like Activator and NCSettings â€"they do most of the same things. But it’s still worth checking out for folks that are looking for a change. You can find MyAssistive in the BigBoss repo for free.

Weekend Reading: Unknown Unknowns, Free-Information Heroes, and Exiled Kings : The New Yorker

One of the most mind-bending articles I read this week was Ethan Watters’s piece “We Aren’t the World [1] ,” from the Pacific Standard. Watters writes about a team of researchers whose work indicates that cultural difference is not just a matter of varied manifestations of universal human qualitiesâ€"it actually influences basic decision making and cognitive patterns. Their studies have found that subjects from different cultures react in widely differing ways to simple tests, like games based on the prisoner’s dilemma. The real catch of this research is that Westerners, and particularly Americans (who are the subjects of the vast majority of studies in the psychological literature), turn out to be outliers by almost any measure the team examined. This means that most of what we think we know about how humans think might apply only a small minority of people. Watters is concise and engaging in his description of Henrich’s research and its ramifications. By the end of the piece, you have the shaky feeling that you live in a world full of what Donald Rumsfeld would call unknown unknowns.

Here’s something else that I didn’t know that I didn’t know: Auto-tune, the pitch correcting software that many music purists consider a major culprit in the ruin of modern pop, was invented by a classical flautist and geophysicist who developed it from technology that is used to find oil reserves. In The Verge, Lessley Anderson writes a comprehensive history of Auto-tune [2] , from its oil-field days, to that Cher song, to the artists who use it without sounding like T-Pain. Conventional opinion, à la Jay-Z [3] , holds that Auto-tune is an affront to musical authenticity, but Anderson explores the question of whether Auto-tuned vocals are all that different from any other manipulation in music production, and whether musical authenticity is even a meaningful value in an age when we walk around with thousands of bands and performances in digital form in our pockets.

In Fortune, Matthew Shaer tells the story of Ilya Zhitomirskiy [4] , who killed himself in 2011 after struggling to get his open-source social-networking site, Diaspora, off the ground. Zhitomirskiy was a free-culture idealist who aimed to liberate information from monetized structures. Diaspora, which set crowd-funding records in 2010, was lauded as the anti-Facebook and Zhitomirskiy as the people’s Zuckerberg. Shaer’s piece looks at the last year and half of Zhitomirskiy’s life, and how his idealistic aspirations went hand-in-hand with fragility and self-doubt. The story invites comparisons to the life and death of Aaron Swartz (Larissa MacFarquhar wrote about him for this magazine). Are thwarted information sharers the emblematic tragic figures of our time? The romantic poets had Thomas Chatterton [5] , who died for his artâ€"or maybe from syphilis, which was the less-romantic plague of his moment. We have Swartz and Zhitomirskiy, who died for free-informationâ€"or maybe from depression, too-high expectations, and neglected mental illness, which are often-ignored plagues of our own era.

For a story that sometimes feels like it could have happened last week, although it actually took place a hundred years ago, read Bill Donahue’s account of the early-twentieth-century celebrity, Naked Joe Knowles [6] in Boston Magazine. In 1913, Knowles decided he would test the ability of man to survive in nature, so he went into the Maine woods, taking nothing with him, to survive there by his wits. There’s a wonderful image of him walking into the forest, to the wonder of an admiring crowd, and then throwing his one piece of clothing, a cotton jockstrap, over his shoulder in a gesture of absolute primitivism. He wrote dispatches to a Boston newspaper on birch bark for the next two months, then emerged from the woods, draped in the skin of a bear he claimed to have killed with a club. Donahue calls Knowles the “reality star of his day.” And all the elements are there: the visually arresting stunt, the gimmick press releases, the large but less-than-heroic personality, and, finally, the revelation that the whole thing might have been faked.

And finally, in another story of a man living out-of-time, Ariel Sabar writes in the Washingtonian about Kigeli V. Ndahindurwa, the former king of Rwanda [7] who had to flee his country and now lives on public assistance in Virginia. At seven-foot-two, the king has an outsized presence that fits his larger-than-life story. His long limbs and his regal habits are both cramped by his present life, which is, in many ways, the life of much of the colonialized world, writ small. But one of the most surprising things in this extraordinary story might have been the mention of the Monarchist League, “a 70-year-old British group that campaigns for the preservation and restoration of kingdoms the world over, largely through receptions and newsletters.” There’s another great magazine piece in the making.
