Introduce yourself â€" Tell us about yourself, your company,  and how you got into developing mobile apps?

Specializing in multimedia development since the late 80′s, we experienced the onset of CD-ROMs and the Web, the phenomenon of start-up, the democratization of Internet access, computers under 500 euros, and the arrival of smartphones. The mobile application development is a logical extension of this know-how multimedia.

How many people are on your team?  And what are their roles?

We are two:

Gerald, graphic artist and “handyman”, comes from the world of advertising. In 1990, he created one of the first companies specializing in multimedia.

Emmanuel, an engineer, joined Gerald in 2004.

We work in tandem, each contributing its expertise.

At what point did you decide you wanted to make apps for the iPhone?

On January 9, 2007, during the presentation of the iphone !

At the time, the idea was just to make websites optimized for the new device.

What were you doing before you started developing for the iPhone?

Advertising prior to 1990, kiosks and CD-ROMs from 1990 to 2000, websites since 1995.

One of your recent apps has broken into the top 50 of its category on the charts.  Tell us about that app.

“Teen Truth or Dare” is the well-known “Truth or Dare” game, also referred to as “Spin the Bottle”.

The rules are simple. One player, chosen at random, must answer a question or perform an action. If they refuse, or if their answer is unconvincing, they are given a forfeit and score no points.

The instructions have been specially written by teens for teens!

This game is off-limits for parents!.

- Over 600 questions, actions and forfeits

- Option to add your own instructions

- Option to modify the original content (questions, actions and forfeits)

- Unlimited number of players

- Questions, actions and forfeits that sometimes involve other players

- Possibility of changing players during the game

“Teen Truth or Dare” is an application released in July 2010!

The adult version of this game (“Hot Truth or Dare”) had come out six months ago. After his success (in France), so we decided to release a version for teens.

What was the best rank position that app hit?

Since its inception in July 2010, the application has been found regularly in the top of many different countries: first in France (Top Game), 4th in France (Top Overall), 4th in the U.S. (Top Card), etc. ..

Were you surprised to see it reach that ranking?

We are always surprised by the rankings. For example, “Hot Truth or Dare” is classified in France and lowest in the United States. For “Teen Truth or Dare”, the opposite.

How long does it take for you to write a typical app from start to finish?

It varies … a week to “At the sea”, 3 months for “Hot Truth or Dare”

What framework do you mainly use to program your apps?

We didn’t use any framework thus far.

What programming language did you use?

We develop in Objective-C.

What do you think was the number one thing you did that made your app successful?

The English translation is an asset ;-) Technical quality and graphics is also an advantage.

With so many apps in the app store, what would you say have been your top 3 ways and/or places to help market your app to gain ranking in the app charts, and why?

Some promotional offers (price drop or passage free).

Have you used any app promotional services, and if so, who, and how did they each work out for you?

No!

Are there any marketing services you have heard about that sound interesting that you have not yet tried?  If so, whom or what, and why have you not yet tried them?

In poker, you have to pay to see. With marketing companies is the same. Nothing is guaranteed!

Our readers are very interested on what kind of download numbers it takes to break into the top 50 of a category.  Based on your peak app ranking, how many downloads were you getting daily on average?

Well, Apple Inc. forbidden to disseminate such information.

If you had to pick the top 3 things app developers should always include in their apps to help with the marketing of their app to other users or something that helps your app jump up the rankings, what would they be, and why?

We have no magic … otherwise, all our applications are in the top 10 of all countries.

What has been  your largest sales day?

Christmas!

Why did you decide to go free/paid?

According to our applications, we test different formulas. We still have not found the ideal formula.

Are you creating apps full time now, or do you have another job?

Full time!

What is it that excites you most about developing apps for the iPhone?

The surprise: will work, not work? and in what country?

Outside of your own apps, what are your 3 favorite apps and why?

Some applications news (French)

Navigon (GPS)

and many applications panoramic (GoPano, PangeaVR, etc.)

What is your favorite game app?

Cut the rope

Doodle Jump

Which app has wowed you more than any other, and why?

Koi Pond (one of the first truly original applications)

What are you working on next?

Major update of our applications

Any advice for up and coming indie developers?

Forget it, there’s no room ;-)

If you still want to try your luck, it’s easy: a good idea, a good idea, a good idea.

What about other platforms?

We are considering a port to Android and Blackberry. But the constraints are heavy and profitability is not assured.
