The funniest and angriest Twitter reactions to being sent a free U2 album by Apple | Music Blog

You get The Pigeon Detectives free with the Samsung Galaxy

You probably haven’t heard because literally nobody is banging on about it like they’ve just been burgled by God, but U2 have given their new album Songs Of Innocence away free to approximately half a billion iTunes users. Sure, it’s a compilation of the least shit bits of several albums they’ve worked on then abandoned. And flogging it to Apple so they can use it to publicise their iPhone 6 and iWatch thing probably cheapens music to the level of getting a free Greggs pasty with every copy of The Daily Star. But people seem disproportionately angry about it. And also funny about it. Especially on Twitter, the natural home of angry and funny people. Here are some that leapt out at us when we woke up this morning:

That’s the actual Neil Finn. Amazing!

But while you’re writing to your MP about the inconvenience of having to delete an album from your iTunes, please spare a thought for those who are suffering far more than you. People like The Telegraph’s Neil “went to school with Bono” McCormick who writes in his review of Songs Of Innocence:

“As a long time U2 fan and supporter (in the interests of full disclosure, I should point out that I am thanked in the album credits, albeit with my name misspelled).”

Does a Chief Rock Writer need a hug?

This is the only review of the new U2 album you need to read [1] .
