Irving police roll out iPhone, Android apps to collect tips, inform residents

Staff writer Paige Kerley reports:

The Irving Police Department has launched its own app, billed as the first of its kind in North Texas for both Apple and Android mobile devices.

The free app is designed to assist community members by providing easier access to police information. Some features of the program include jail and sex offender searches, contact information for various departments and a way to submit tips.

The app, designed with partner CloudSpace Mobile, is available for download through iTunes and Google Play [1] .

Earlier this month, the Dallas Police Department revealed new features on a similar app called iWatch Dallas. The Apple-friendly program was developed in 2010 but now offers Dallas ISD students a school-specific button where they can direct tips.
