T-Mobile shook up the US carrier industry last year with its âUncarrierâ plans that eliminated two-year contracts to make way for contract-free plans with much cheaper rentals . The carrier is now gearing up to further build upon on the Uncarrier approach, in a press event in Los Angeles on the 18th of June.
T-Mobile mailed invites for the Uncarrier 5.0 event earlier today, with a tagline that said âWe donât play it safe and sound.â
T-Mobileâs outspoken CEO John Legere [1] has led the carrier towards huge growth in the past few quarters owing to the âUncarrierâ plans, but that growth has come at the cost of losses, which it hopes would pay off in the long run.
As part of Uncarrier 4.0 , T-Mobile covered the early termination fees of subscribers switching from other carriers. Apart from selling devices contract-free, T-Mobile has also started offering free international data roaming , bundling 200MB of monthly data for free with every T-Mobile iPad  and allowed customers to upgrade their smartphones twice a year .
Weâre really looking forward to see what Legere and co. have planned for Uncarrier 5.0, and how it impacts the US carrier market as a whole.
