Zuki's Quest Review » 148Apps » iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch App Reviews and News

This turn-based puzzle platformer will keep gamers on their toes as they work with gravity to collect idols in as few moves as possible.

Zuki’s Quest is an indie turn-based puzzle platformer that takes gamers on an adventure to a mysterious island. In this freemium game, players are tasked with guiding Zuki and her hummingbird safely through dangerous environments to collect golden idols.

jungle03jungle01To play Zuki’s Quest, players must swipe on the screen to change the gravity. Changing the gravity allows Zuki to move throughout each level to collect three coins. Every level only has a certain number of moves that can be made and at the end, players will earn either a Gold, Silver, or Bronze coin. Along with collecting coins, they will also find blue idols on each level. These can be used to purchase more moves or skip a level if desired.

Moving Zuki is no easy task. Once gravity is changed, she won’t stop until she hits a wall or object. This means that players will have to plan out their actions carefully to avoid dangerous spikes, rocks that move when gravity changes, and other obstacles to prevent an untimely death. For those hoping to compete with friends, there aren’t any Game Center leaderboards and only three Game Center achievements to earn. More achievements and challenges would help increase the replay value.

ice03desert01Players get the first 24 levels of Jungle Temple for free. There are additional in-app purchases to unlock more of the game to bring the current total to 72 levels. Unlocking the other two batches costs $0.99 each, and all current and future levels can be unlocked for a total of $2.99. More blue idols can also be purchased at a rate of 30 for $0.99.

Zuki’s Quest has a charming style that makes it feel unique. There are many environmental obstacles and elements incorporated into the game that keep it challenging and prevents it from going stale quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed that the game wasn’t too easy and it doesn’t take long for things to heat up and get difficult. Anyone looking for a new puzzler to add to their collection will want to download this free gem today.
