Imgur is one of the most popular image hosting websites on the internet right now. If you are a regular Reddit user, you would definitely see this site popping up on the front page every now and then. Imgur has been operational from a long time though the only thing that was missing was a dedicated Imgur application for different operating systems. There were a number of third party applications available in Google Play Store and iOS App Store but recently, company released their own set of applications for iOS and Android. The Android version made its debut in the Google Play Store last month followed by iOS application, which was released a few days back. We’ll take a detailed look at its iOS counterpart after a jump.
Is it the same?
Imgur for iOS provides its users with the similar set of features that are offered by the web service. So, if you are a regular Imgur user, you can rest assured that this application will cater all your needs. You can browse Imgur gallery, login to your account, upload images, comment, use Imgur filters and share your favorite images across different social networks.
Features
The good thing about the application is that it can be used without signing in. You can browse images, upload them or share them with others. However, keep this thing in mind that you won’t be able to comment or rate any image if you are not logged in. If you are a new user, you can register an account from within the application as well. To bring up the sidebar, simple tap on the “three lines†button and login with your credentials.
The application allows users to upload images from their handset to Imgur. All that you need to do is tap on the cloud icon on the top right corner of the screen and it will ask you to select the place from where you want to upload your image. You have the option to upload images from your camera gallery or take a new photo using the Camera app. You can even paste a URL of any image in the box provided. Once uploaded, the application will give you a direct link to the uploaded image. You can also share the image on Twitter or via Email.
You can browse the images uploaded by other users and the viral ones, which are sorted based on the popularity. By default, it will show you images that are popular for the specific day.
After opening an image, you can comment on it (if you are logged in), rate the image and much more.
Verdict
There is no denying to the fact that the official Imgur app may be better than all the third party applications that are available in the App Store. During our testing we did come across a small bug during the upload process. We had to tap on the “Start Upload†button multiple times before the application uploaded the image, however, this happened twice only. Apart from that, there was no option to share the image on Facebook, it only showed options to send the image via email or share it on Twitter.
Overall, if you are an Imgur fan, this is a must have application for you. It has a very simple and easy to use interface and provides all the features that you can use on the web version. The application is designed for both iPhone and iPad. Feel free to share your thoughts.
