Boxee Launches Cloudee Public Beta with iPhone App, Desktop Uploader

Cloudee open betaIt's kind of a bummer that Apple doesn't allow videos into iCloud's Photo Stream, but that isn't stopping developers from coming up with their own innovative solutions. The latest is Cloudee, a new project from the folks at Boxee.

Boxee has announced an open beta for Cloudee, its new cloud-based video service first teased at the beginning of the summer and finally out of closed beta. With an iOS app ready in the App Store, that means any and all can finally join in the fun.

"Today Cloudee launches OPEN Beta, available for anyone to download and use for free, with some awesome new features that make it even easier to share and store personal videos with the people that matter most," Boxee announced on the Cloudee blog.

In addition to the iOS app, the company has created a Mac and Windows desktop uploader for those without an iPhone, or even to upload videos that don't reside on your device.

A brand-new web interface makes it easy to manage all of your uploaded videos as well as sharing them with friends -- something that's also quite easy from the iOS 6-optimized app as well.

"This new update also lets you share to any Facebook friend or from your address book, and quickly publish videos or collections to Facebook or Twitter with one click," the blog notes. "All videos are now private until explicitly shared, so it’s easy to use Cloudee for all your videos -- whether you want to keep them private or share."

While Cloudee is still in beta, both new and existing users will enjoy free unlimited storage. Once the company launches premium accounts down the road, beta users can continue to access, watch and share their existing videos for free, but may need to upgrade in order to continue uploading new movies.
