If youâve been around the web for more than a couple of years, chances are you remember Digg. The news aggregation site made social sharing cool long before Facebook or Twitter hit their high notes.
But the last couple of years have been rough for Digg. After seeing a dramatic drop in page views, the site that was once in talks with Google over a $200 million buyout, sold for a measly $500 thousand to the folks at Betaworks [1] .
Enter Digg v1â¦
From Diggâs blog [2] :
âOn July 20, we announced that we were turning Digg back into a startup and rebuilding it from scratch in six weeks. After an intense month and a half, we managed to get the new Digg up and running on a fresh code base and fresh infrastructure. We now have a solid foundation on which to build, and we expect to build fast. Yesterday, we previewed the new Digg applications for web, iPhone, and mobile web and today weâre happy to share Digg v1.â
The result of all of this is a newly-designed Digg.com [3] that not only looks great, but allows you too see what the top stories are on the web. It kind of gives you a snapshot of whatâs going on in the world.
Of course, they couldnât launch a shiny new website without an iPhone app to match. Digg version 3.0 hit the App Store yesterday, and as with the revamped website, the new app doesnât disappoint.
Use Digg mobile to scroll through the dayâs top or upcoming stories, and then read them in a Readability-esque format. And if you really like what you see, you can share it on Facebook, or Twitter.
From where weâre sitting, it seems like the new owners are doing everything right to get the site back on track. If you want to see what all of the fuss is about, you can find Digg in the App Store [4] , for free.
What are your thoughts on the new Digg?
