A Russian software developer recently posted a video on YouTube showing iPhone users how they can buy products within an app, like a magazine issue, without paying.
Apple swiftly responded, getting YouTube to pull the video (Iâve embeded it below, where youâll only see static and a notification of the take-down). But as The New York Times reported [1] , the video apparently showed the software developer tweaking his iPhone by installing certificates and altering the Wi-Fi settings. Then when he tried to download something within an app, a box appears asking âLike in-appstore.com?â Clicking âlikeâ lets users download content for free.
The work-around seems to work for some apps and not for others, so youâll want to check and see if yours are affected. Apparently, apps that have employed Appleâs method for validating purchases [2] within an app before delivering content arenât affected.
