BOSTON, Sept. 12, 2011 -- /PRNewswire/ -- Immersion Project Inc. is excited to announce the launch of locals KNOW for the iPhone, available as a free download in the iTunes AppStore. locals KNOW makes discovering what to see in Boston [1] fast, simple, & entertaining.
Tourists often learn about local communities through sterile information sources that are purposely designed to drive traffic. "It's like offering Vanilla ice cream to everyone," said Ed Tobin, founder of Immersion Project. "I like Vanilla but I love trying different flavors as well."
Today, tourists rely on Boston guide books & tours, while locals and day-trippers typically can be found just wandering the Freedom Trail [2] or another destination on their own. Regardless of the method used to explore the city, visitors will undoubtedly walk past many places with amazing stories that will never be heard. Worse yet, these stories will disappear over time if someone isn't paying attention. The Immersion Project is designed to stop that from happening -- locals KNOW Boston is the first city launched, as Boston has such a rich and diverse backdrop of unheard stories.
locals KNOW provides the user with a personalized guide to what to see in Boston. Using originally produced multimedia stories created by the locals who call Boston home, these stories provide a local twist on ordinary vanilla content. "I walk past this place everyday on the way to work and never thought twice about it until locals KNOW popped up on my phone and clued me in. A street corner becomes more interesting when you know a little bit of its history. I now have a great story about a stop on my way to work about a pig being responsible for how our Massachusetts Government is organized," said user Ara Kotchian.
Wasting time aimlessly walking the Freedom Trail or trying to decide on things to do in Boston [3] is not a lot of fun without some interesting stories and sites. locals KNOW is available for download now, so users can start seeing and hearing what they have been missing.
