Whale of a tale inspires Time Everything

[prMac.com] Athlone, Ireland - When Tom Tierney, founder of Irish app development company Moonswing Ltd, embarked on an attempt to read Herman Melville's "Moby Dick" it was the spark that provided the inspiration for the company's new iOS app - Time Everything.

"It has a certain reputation as a 'difficult' book, so I wondered exactly how long it would take to read it" Tom explains. "You always have a general notion in terms of the number of days it takes to complete a book, but I was looking for a far more precise figure. From there the idea of Time Everything, an app that allows you define a task and then time exactly how long you spend doing it was born."

The central premise of Time Everything is that you create a task for any activity that you wish to time. For example, you might decide to track the time spent on "Household Chores". Then, every time you undertake such a task you time and record it using Time Everything. This helps you understand exactly how you are spending your time - knowledge that can help separate the wheat from the chaff.

Time Everything allows you create as many tasks as you like and take as many timings as you require for each task. It can time events that are happening simultaneously so if, for example, you are doing some household chores while your children are watching TV, you can track both. Even if you don't have your iPhone to hand, Time Everything lets allow you manually enter timings 'after the event'. Time Everything lets you filter and sort your data, and can also export your timings via iTunes to an spreadsheet program.

Though Time Everything has successfully traveled the path from initial idea to finished product, Tom Tierney admits that the task for which it was originally conceived has not yet been completed. "I'm afraid my progress through 'Moby Dick' was becalmed shortly after the Pequod left Nantucket. Using Time Everything I was able to write a note after each period of reading, so if I do set out on the journey again I'll just need to open the app and read those notes to get back up to speed with the plot. In any event, I think I know how it ends."
