If you've ever dreamed of becoming a pop star, a new app might give you a taste of what you'd sound like.
In fact, the free Songify for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch can turn your spoken words into a catchy melody -- you don't even have to carry a tune, as the app does it all for you.
Simply tap the large album to begin talking, and once you're done you'll hear a produced song you can save, e-mail, post to Facebook or Twitter, or upload to the rest of the Songify community to listen to and rate.
Consider it autotune on steroids.
Along with pitch correction, the app uses patent-pending artificial intelligence and speech-recognition technology to create a melody that fits the music playing. The app will also randomize and repeat your sentences — which sound better if you speak in rhyme — so you can save the one you like the best.

Songify is the result of a partnership between The Gregory Brothers, creators of the Auto-Tune the News series on YouTube and viral hits like Bed Intruder Song and Double Rainbow, and Khush, an app development studio best known for LaDiDa, another fun music-creation app for novices.
Songify ships with three free song templates to start, including the Double Rainbow classic, plus there are many more to preview or purchase for 99 cents apiece or less, including rap, pop and techno songs.
While this app is a blast for kids, be aware that the uploaded Songify creations by others will likely contain profanity or inappropriate lyrics -- if our experience is any indication.
Overall, though, Songify is an absolute blast and will no doubt turn into a popular social activity among Apple gadget owners this summer.
