Fairfax launches house hunting for iPad

Your IT - Mobility

Fairfax real estate site Domain.com.au, claiming to be buoyed by the success of its iPhone app, can now be accessed from a customised app for iPad, offering features over and beyond those of its smaller iPhone cousin. According to Fairfax, Domain.com.au, which trails market leader Realestate.com.au, is the first major real estate portal to hit the iPad.

The free Domain.com.au app for the iPad offers a range of features, extending from the iPhone with advancements including the use of the ‘around me’ function allowing users to search for properties in their immediate area using the iPad’s GPS function.

Fairfax claims, the app is the ultimate tool for those searching for their new property, providing a new interactive map search interface, with increased consumer interaction in a visual image led gallery mode.

Tony Blamey, General Manager, Real Estate at Fairfax Media said: “The Domain.com.au mobile apps have become indispensible for those looking to buy or rent their dream home, giving them a head start on the competition by being able to search on-the-go.”

“With the iPad app we have taken this one step further. With new features, including the use of the ‘around me’ function, we’re making it that much easier for users to really get to know the area they’re looking to buy in and finding their perfect home.”

Property seekers can search thousands of properties Australia-wide with the Domain.com.au app for the iPad, just as they’ve been able to do with the existing mobile apps.

Key features include; being able to search for listings with inspections scheduled within a specified time frame; view recently sold properties; interact with property details, images and floor plans; contact the advertiser directly from your iPad; create a shortlist of properties and plan for inspection day; sync online Domain.com.au accounts with the iPad; and share properties with friends via email.

This is Domain.com.au’s fourth entry into the app market with the iPhone, Windows Phone 7 and Android apps already available for free on the App Store or via the Windows Phone and Android marketplaces.

The Domain.com.au app for the iPhone has now been downloaded by more than 480,000 users, making it the most downloaded Australian property app on the market, according to Fairfax.
