San Francisco, California headquartered wearable products company Jawbone on Monday released [1] a brand new Up software for the iPhone [2] in the App Store [3] (not to be confused with the firm’s existing Up app).

Announced earlier in the month [4] , the app features iOS 8 [5] HealthKit integration, personalized fitness advice and other features, but without requiring Jawbone’s UP or UP24 fitness band .

The app lets you share Up’s food, fitness and sleep tracking data with iOS 8’s Health app, and vice versa. Jawbone has opened up its platform to third-party development so more than a hundred health and fitness applications and accessories for the iPhone and iPad now integrate with Up, with or without HealthKit, including Strava Running & Cycling, Wello, IFTTT, RunKeeper and MyFitnessPal. [6]

By tracking your activity, diet and sleep, the software can adapt to your habits and provide personalized fitness advice, powered by Jawbone’s Insight Engine. Once connected to Health on iOS 8, the app will use your available steps and sleep data that the motion chip inside your iPhone 5s or later automatically collects on your behalf.

“With step tracking, workout logging and Insight Reports, UP is way more than a pedometer,” developers noted in release notes. “Add friends to your team to cheer and be cheered”.

You can also use the app to monitor weight and set custom alerts to get reminded when it’s time to get moving, take your medicine, hit the bed and more.

For instance, iPhone users can set alerts with UP for specific activities like taking medicine, starting a workout, or preparing for bed. UP also helps monitor weight and other information with goals and social aspects to the app as well.

The app can also track food with features like frequent meals, an enhanced calorie counter, an expanded library of restaurant menus and a Food Score providing an at-a-glance overview of your general well-being.

  • Log your food & drink & track nutritional info
  • Track your physical activity and get more fit
  • Log workouts, from yoga and hiking to tennis and dance
  • Log your sleep
  • Team up with friends in the app for encouragement and friendly competition
  • Today I Will â€" UP suggests personalized goals. If you accept, UP encourages you along the way
  • Streaks & Milestones â€" Get notifications that celebrate the progress you’re making
  • Activity alerts â€" Receive move notifications when you want them.
  • Share UP’s Insights via email, message, Facebook or Twitter

The 78.3-megabyte download is available free of charge in the App Store [8] .

Jawbone’s other Up app recently picked up several interesting features such as  weight management , caffeine intake tracking and sleep analysis .

5 Best iOS 8 Keyboards

We’ll show you where to find the best iOS 8 keyboards and help you learn to type faster with iOS 8 on your iPhone and iPad.

The recent iOS 8 update unlocked the ability to use a new iPhone keyboard without the need to jailbreak your phone. Apple announced the feature this summer and developers spent the last several months working on a collection of paid and free iOS 8 keyboards that work on the iPhone and iPad.

All of these iOS 8 keyboards work on any device that runs iOS 8. This includes the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus , iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 and iPhone 4s. These also work on the iPad 2 and newer and the iPod touch 5th generation.

There are a variety of iOS 8 keyboards available and even users who don’t like to spend money on apps can enjoy the new iPhone keyboards thanks to several great free iOS 8 keyboard options.

To use an iOS 8 keyboard you need to download the new keyboard from the App Store. This works just like downloading an app, but you need to turn on the keyboard. You can install multiple iOS 8 keyboards, and you can even remove the default iOS 8 keyboard so that it’s not one you need to select.

There are many iOS 8 keyboards available and we’ll walk through a range of them aimed at helping you type faster, add some fun to your messages and one that simply lets you customize the iPhone keyboard color.

When you install some iOS 8 keyboards you may need to give the keyboard full access, with a scary warning, but as long as you install a trusted keyboard you should be ok. Apple uses a special limited keyboard for entering a password. You can see this in action while using a third-party iOS 8 keyboard. When you click on a password field the keyboard switches out and then back when you leave it.

One downside to using a third-party iOS 8 keyboard is that you lose access to dictation because Apples doesn’t let users tap into that area, even with full access.

How to Add an iOS 8 Keyboard

The first thing you need to do is download a new iOS 8 keyboard. After you do this you can go to settings and make the change. Check out our favorite iOS 8 keyboards below and then come back to these directions to get started.

Download the iOS 8 Keyboard you want.

Go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboards -> Add New Keyboard -> tap on the name of the keyboard. That’s all to the basic installation.

For some keyboards you need to go into the options to Allow Full Access. To do this tap on the keyboard name and then toggle it on. This lets the keyboard send data to servers to unlock features. On SwiftKey for iOS 8 this how it manages predictions.

For some of the iOS 8 keyboards you will need to open the app to change settings. With the SwiftKey keyboard this is where it can learn from your Gmail, Twitter, Facebook and Evernote accounts to deliver better predictions based on the way you type. You can also back up to the cloud so that your settings and predictions can sync to the iPad and always be available if you buy a new iPhone or restore.

Here are the best iOS 8 keyboards we could find. We’ll start with our two favorite iPhone keyboards and expand into some fun and specific use cases. Most of the iOS 8 keyboards are free to 99 cents, but if you want the

iPhone 6 And 6 Plus Are Here - Top Best Free Apps For These Devices

The new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have been a success in sales so far, so if you’re one of the 10 million people that bought the device, take a look at this article on what are the best free apps you can install on the device to fully take advantage of it.

The huge sales numbers which also helped  Apple break some records this year are part due to the company finally joining their competition in the phablet market, and satisfying its consumer’s needs by manufacturing its first phablet device.

The new Apple flagships bring a sense of fresh not only to the hardware and design, but also the software side, with the new iOS8 included, which showcases new features. Here are a few apps that you can get for free and shouldn’t miss from your device.

SwiftKeyboard

The new version of the operating system includes support for third party keyboards. That’s all SwiftKey needed to instantly become a must-have app for your iDevice running iOS8. Your device doesn’t have to necessarily be the new iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, although those two take better advantage of the app due to the bigger sized screens.

SwiftKey offers a very accurate word prediction based on your personal typing style which the app can learn. The keyboard also provides autocomplete suggestions that help you save time by completing a word with just one tap rather than writing each letter individually. You can use the Flow feature to slide between letters instead of typing each letter at a time.  Also, you can have two languages set at the same time, so you can type in two languages at once.

Asphalt 8: Airborne

Packing your phone with useful apps that help you organize or share data, and things like that are important, but you also have to loosen up once in a while, so we recommend Asphalt 8: Airborne. The game is developed by Gameloft and it has exceptional graphics, as well as a multiplayer mode. As long as you are using iOS8, there are several iPhone and iPad models that can support the game. In-game, you become a race driver and your goal is to dominate the racing scene while dodging police units. The game features car models from famous real life manufacturers such as Mazda, Koenigsegg, Maserati, Peugeot and others. If you think the single player mode isn’t enough for you, try taking on other players in the multiplayer mode.

Widgts

With this app, your Notification Center will benefit from additional widgets that can be useful. The app comes with widgets for currency converter, time zone, calculator, calendar and even a photo frame. For $0.99, you can get the premium package that includes up to five time zones, copy and paste capabilities for the calculator, scrolling through months in the calendar, and up to five photos in the frame and .

Wunderlist

This is an app you shouldn’t miss out on if you are the kind of person that uses to-do lists constantly. The app comes across several platforms, including Mac and PC, and it makes a widget available for the Notification Center.

You can easily access the notes you write down and share them with other people if necessary. You can color the lists a little by adding files like PDFs, pictures and presentations.

Evernote

Taking notes is made even easier with yet another app, which is Evernote. Organizing notes and making lists has never been easier, and once you are done editing them, you can share them. You can use the app to plan trips, take important notes, compile to-do lists as well as regular lists, as well as take quick snapshots you can attach to the note.

This Week's Best Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone Apps

If there's something I've noticed over the past few years it's that I can never seem to clean up things properly. Five minutes after I feel like I've tidied to an acceptable standard the room is a total mess again. That's an exaggeration of course, but it's not that far from the truth. It's really quite baffling. You know what else is baffling? Why so many brand new Android apps are Android Wear watch faces. What's up with that?

iPhone Apps

Joy of Cooking: [1]  A cookery app with thousands of recipes that are all stored offline so they can be accessed whenever you need them. But that's not all, the app has built-in timers so you get everything absolutely right, and also reads them out loud so that you don't have to keep checking the recipe every few seconds to keep track of things. [£2.49]

Sleepio: [2]  A programme clinically proven to help you improve your sleep and overcome issues without having to resort to pills or other external remedies. Sleepio is designed to help you fall asleep up to 50 per cent faster, wake up during the night 60 per cent less, and boost daytime energy by 50 per cent .It's not free, and after a seven-week trial you can choose to pay £3 per month, or £92 for the full 12-week programme. [Free -- with subscription]

Vhoto: [3]  Have you ever struggled to get a decent shot on your phone? Maybe you've been struggling with auto-focus, or maybe something has been moving too fast for you to time it perfectly. Vhoto takes all the luck out of it by recoding a video, or taking an existing one, and selecting what it thinks are the best shots as individual photographs. Or you can go through it yourself and find the one that you think is best. [Free]

GIF Keyboard: [ 4] Sometimes word just don't cut it, and emoji are all-round lame. When you want something that shows exactly how you're feeling, you want a GIF. GIF Keyboard will let you send GIFs within iMessage for the recipient to see without having to click any unnecessary links. It's customisable as well, so you can pick and choose your favourite GIFs to share with friends. [Free]

Modio: An app that lets you create and design your own 3D printable models using a collection of stock parts. It's a bit like construction toys that you c an buy for kids, except it's totally customisable and you can make your own. It's now available on the iPhone along with a new set of templates and various new pieces to play with. [Free] [5]

iPad Apps

One Note: [6]  One Note is Microsoft's no te-taking service that syncs across your devices. Taking advantage of the recent iOS 8 upgrade, One Note has had an update. It now has an extension that lets you send content directly to the app so that it can be stored there or sent elsewhere. [Free]

MusiXmatch Music Lyrics Player: [7]  An interesting one, MusiXmatch is an app designed to fully integrate lyrics with your music experience. Not only will the app listen and identify both son gs and their lyrics, you can also view the lyrics while listening to music or watching music videos. Never again will you embarrass yourself with mis-heard lyrics. [Free -- with subscription]

Post-it Plus: [8] The humble post-it hasn't really has a 21st century makeover, and it's not hard to see why. As great as digital notes are, you can't stick them all over the place as reminders. Post-it Plus isn't there to replace your post-it notes, instead it's there to enhance them. You can snap pictures of your notes and they'll be stuck onto a virtual corkboard for you to organise. It's also a handy back-up if you lose the physical copies. [Free]

Stylect: [9]  You can never have too many shoes. Well you can, but that's far from the point. If you are one for shoe shopping, it might be a little tricky. If you don't have the time to go out and spend the day looking, you have to resort to the internet, whic h invariably makes things a little tricky. Describing itself as Tinder for shoes, Stylect is a way of browsing over 60,000 pairs of shoes from multiple brands to find the ones that suit you. [Free]

Magisto - Magical Video Editor: [10]  A quick and easy way to edit videos and photos automatically, complete with music and effects. So whether or not you're able to actually edit them yourself, you can still create your own amazing movies in the palm of your hand. [Free -- with in-app purchases]

Whether it's for nostalgia purposes, genuine curiosity, or if you have some sort of strange belief that adverts from the period were superior and you want to be pretentious about it. [Free]

Ministry of Silly Walks Watchface: [14]  We've all seen the game based on the famous Monty Python sketch, and chances are you've seen a Silly Walks clock on places like Etsy. Well now it's on an Android Wear watch face, so John Cleese's legs can tell you the time in a variety of silly stances. [£0.50]

Antivirus & Security - screenshot

avast! Antivirus and Security: avast! is the popular anti-virus software on your phone, designed to keep everything secure and as safe as possible. Windows Phone Apps

UC Browser: [17] The number of official third-party web browsers on Windows Phone is a little limited (just like most other apps), but UC Browser is a definite option. This new version has a brand-new UI with better navigation, an integrated search and address bar, and better tab switching. [Free]
