Sent to the market by his uncle to sell their horse and buy thatch for their roof, Jack meets the beautiful Princess Isabelle whom he rescues her from ruffians. He returns home only with a handful of beads given to him by a monk who claimed they were sacred but that does little to impress his uncle who tosses them away. In the night the Princess arrives having run off to keep from marrying Roderick who is clearly only interested in becoming king. Soon the beans take root with a giant stalk carrying away the princess and Jack's house. He soon sets off on an adventure with the king's guards to rescue the princess only to find that a mythical land filled with giants really exists.

Viber - Free Phone Calls & Text 3.0 (for iPhone) Review & Rating

The iPhone [1]  revolutionized the mobile market, but the actual phone and messaging experience hasn't changed too dramatically. Viber (free, App Store) is a VoIP app that aims to improve your talk and text experience with some remarkable new tools. It might even save you a little money in the process, with free voice and text messages to other Viber users.

Starting Up
Setting up Viber is fairly straightforward: just enter your phone number and a user name, then enter the activation code Viber sends via SMS. I was impressed when setting up Viber on my Samsung Galaxy S III [2] when the app automatically detected the activation textâ€"a feature surely impossible in iOS.

For better or worse your Viber account is tied to your existing phone number.  This means you'll have to create a new account when you migrate to a new phone, though the developers tell me your data should still be available. However, the big advantage is that Viber will automatically detect which of your contacts is already using the service.

 This is in stark contrast to Google Voice [3] , which lets you create a new, independent phone number that will redirect to the devices of your choosing. Viber is focused more on communication, so look at Google Voice if you want to merge multiple phone numbers behind a single number.

Using Viber
Once you're up and running, Viber will automatically import all your contacts into its own directory. From here you can quickly call or send messages using either Viber or your normal data plan. This is smart, since it encourages you to use Viber as your one-stop-shop for voice and messaging.

The other sections are for messaging, recent calls, a keypad, and settings. The interface is very iOS, with tabs running along the bottom bar, but I preferred the Android version's streamlined approach which condensed the app down to three sections.

Viber is obviously keen to use design features that iOS users are familiar with, but I'd like to see a more imaginative and elegant design that looks like an iOS app.

And to tech it up, we've got five free iPhone / iPad apps to help you along the way if you're giving up your smokes on World No Tobacco Day Friday:

1) Since iQuit: This nifty app tells you how long it's been since you tossed your cigs aside, how much money you've saved (in euro, if you you're a super fancy type who buys those Gauloises abroad) and allows you to share your info with the world if you choose via Twitter, Facebook , email or text. Oh, and you can opt for your tobacco of choice: cigarettes, pipes or cigars.

2) No Smokes: An interactive quiz asking you how long you've smoked, how much you smoke, why you want to quit, when you're quitting. You're asked to choose whether you're Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander or both or neither, though the answers don't seem to change much no matter how you answer this question. At the end of the quiz, which is navigated by a computer-generated voice with an endearing Australian accent, you're given suggestions on how to approach quitting. After that, you're on your own with this one.

3) Zombie Smokeout: A Zombie-themed video game developed by the American Cancer Society . You are the super heroine out to douse the world's secondhand smoke. You jump over smoking Zombies. If you miss, you are enveloped in a deadly cloud of Zombie smoke. It's a distraction. And a pretty good one.

4) My Last Cigarette: This is the "Scared Straight" app. It shows you how much you've reduced your risk of heart attack and lung cancer and the number of people who died from smoking-related deaths since you tossed your cigs. It also tallies your savings and the number of cigarettes you've opted not to smoke. (Downside: Lots of advertisements, though there's a 99 cent version that makes the ads go away.)

5) Quit Pro: A simple interface tells you how much time since you've quit, how much you've saved, how many hours of life you've gained. It also helps you identify triggers -- hunger, stress, boredom -- as well as motivators for continuing to live a tobacco-free life.

Best Buy is offering a free -> $150 iPhone 5 trade-in offer, but it may not be your best bet

This morning CNET confirmed [2] some of the same rumblings we’ve been hearing from retail tipsters.  Best Buy [3] will be offering $150 trade-in value for any iPhone 4 / 4S, yielding a free 16GB iPhone 5 (Sprint, Verizon or AT&T) with a 2 year contract thanks to their current $50 off promo [4] .  This deal is only valid in-stores for one day only.

Definitely a solid deal for heavily used, less desirable models (Sprint, Verizon), but be sure to check other trade-in services before heading into a Best Buy store.  For instance, Gazelle [5] will pay you $215 for a 64GB iPhone 4S AT&T (good condition), plus another $10 if you use the special 9toToys promo [6] .  That’s an extra $75 over Best Buy’s offer.  In some cases, Amazon [7] will pay upwards of $300 for an iPhone 4S, so be sure to weigh all your options before jumping into bed with Best Buy.
