At the end of July, a report made the rounds that stated Apple Stores would begin on-site iPhone 5s screen replacements in early August. Now, that has officially been confirmed as true.
On July 31, it was reported that on-site iPhone 5s screen replacements would begin in Apple Stores within the United States beginning August 4. Now, a report from AppleInsider has confirmed that the process has begun, as many reports have come in from iPhone 5s owners who have had their displays replaced on-site already.
Most of these broken iPhone 5s owners reported that their display was replaced within an hour of bringing it in. Thatâs a far better turnaround for an iPhone 5s owner, as a broken display used to mean sending the device into Apple proper, and waiting roughly five days to get the handset back.
While the report does confirm that the service is now rolling out to Apple Stores across the United States, it was unable to verify whether or not it is present in every store yet. A representative reportedly confirmed that it is not a guarantee in every location as of this writing.
The screen replacement for the iPhone 5s is the same as it is for other devices: an owner will need to bring the device into the store, so that the handset can be inspected an evaluated. If the handset can be fixed on-site, the customer can expect to pay around $149 to get the display replaced, versus the $269 fee quoted by some off-site replacements.
If you were curious, itâs reported that Apple is using the same machine for iPhone 5s screen replacements that they use for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. The latter device was included for on-site screen replacements just this last January .
