The public release of iOS 8 is just a few short months from now, but that hasnât stopped iOS developers from releasing a number of useful jailbreak tweaks for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Enter Brevity, a new jailbreak tweak that adds a text shortcut to the Messages app on iPhone. We take a closer look at the tweak after the break.Â
Brevity aims to increase the speed in which you can message others, although it is limited in scope. The tweak essentially replaces the Send button with a word of your choice. When you tap on the word, it automatically sends. If you start composing a message instead, the shortcut disappears and the Send button is visible once again.
For a better understanding of how Brevity functions, I suggest watching this demo video of the tweak in action:
You can enable a text, emoji or unicode character shortcut through the Settings app once the tweak is installed, with no other options to configure. A respring is not required when setting or changing a shortcut.
Overall, this tweak is an interesting concept that could be useful for some users. At the same time, I would probably just rather set my own text shortcuts â" which can be phrases, instead of a single word â" through Settings > General > Keyboard > Add New Shortcut. For instance, you can type âomwâ and have it translated to âon my way.â
But if Brevity is your cup of tea, it will set you back 99 cents on the Cydia Store [1] in the BigBoss repo.
Do you find this tweak useful?
