Apple reportedly acquires BookLamp, for somewhere between $10 and $15 million

Apple acquires BookLamp

Apple recently announced their third quarterly earnings, and in the process revealed that they had acquired 29 companies since fiscal 2013. Five of them had been picked up in the first half of 2014, with Beats Electronics being the most obvious purchase . Now, it looks like we’ve found out one of those five.

According to a report published by TechCrunch, Apple reportedly acquired the Idaho-based company earlier this year, and they did so for a total between $10 and $15 million. The company itself is known as the “Pandora for books,” insofar that they created something akin to the music-centric application, including a Book Genome Project. Which, the more you use it, the system analyzes ratings and texts of previous books you’ve read, and recommend new titles for you to read later.

The report states that many BookLamp employees have left Idaho and moved to California. It also reports that Amazon was eyeballing the company, but apparently went with GoodReads instead. Additionally, BookLamp still has an office in Idaho, but the majority of the employees are now working within Apple.

As of this writing, Apple hasn’t commented on the report.
