Rdio Gets Free Radio Stations On iPhone, iPad And iPod Touch

iTunes Radio changed the game: before its launch, Spotify got ready and released a feature that enabled non-subscription users to listen to radio stations on mobile devices free of cost. Before that, users had to purchase a $9,99 subscription to gain access to millions of tracks on their mobile devices.

Rdio just followed Spotify´s steps, releasing a feature it likes to call “Stations”, which basically follows the same principle: a way to enable users to access to Rdio´s music library for “free” in the form of a radio station supported by ads.

According to The Verge [1] :

Rdio’s radio feature, which it calls Stations, is free to non-subscribers on its mobile apps in the United States, Canada, and Australia. Previously, a user who reached the end of Rdio’s 14-day free trial and decided not to pay could no longer listen to music inside the app. Now that user can listen to an unlimited number of artist, album, genre, and track-based stations, in addition to “You FM,” Rdio’s personalized take on a listener’s tastes.

Risky move, don´t you think? But Rdio still believes users will pay to get full control of the songs they want to listen to, as well as have a radio station feature to let the app decide for them on what they might like to listen to.

It´s good to see that more and more services are offering a radio service for people who aren´t quite ready to commit.
