Make Custom Ringtones and Alert Tones for Your iPhone

From iOS5, iPhone users can set your own ringtones and alert tones. However, due to limitation of Apple’s API ,  it is somehow difficult to set your own sound.

Besides you can purchase ringtones and alert tones from iTunes store, you can also make your own with the help of some apps. The free “Ringtone Maker App [1] ” can help you customise your iPhone tones very easily.

This app is free, you can download from AppStore by clicking this link [2] .

Step 2.  Choose a music file

Picking the right sound is a matter of personal taste, but it’s worth considering the purpose of your custom tone. The sounds you can change for your iPhone include:

  • Ringtone
  • Text Tone (including iMessages and MMS)
  • New Voicemail
  • New Mail
  • Sent Mail
  • Tweet, Calendar Alerts
  • Reminder Alerts

This app can import music files from many sources, you can add from your iPhone music library, from Dropbox folder, or open from your email attachment.

Step 3.  Edit the sound

The Ringtone Maker App has an intuitive interface, so you can easily cut the sound you want.

You can just swipe the sound waveform or drag the metal knob to set the length and start/end point of the music. When you’ve got your ringtone configured to your liking, tap the “Disk” icon to export the ringtone.

Step 4.  Export to iTunes

These steps below are the most important steps to make your own ringtone, you first need to send the ringtone file to your desktop PC, you can choose sending email, using file-sharing or Dropbox. The final purpose is to save the ringtone files to your iTunes.

When you add your ringtones to iTunes, there will be a “Tones” category under the “LIBRARY” section.

Step 5.  Sync

You’ll need to sync your iOS device with iTunes in order to load your ringtone on it. Just make sure that when you’re looking at the Ringtones section of your iOS device’s sync information in iTunes to either select All Ringtones or choose Selected Ringtones with your new sound checked off. Otherwise, it won’t transfer.

Your ringtone has been created and syncedâ€"now for the easy part! Navigate to Settings -> Sounds on your iPhone or iPod touch (or, on your iPad, Settings -> General -> Sounds), and tap on the alert sound you wish to change.

Now scroll to your newly-created soundâ€"it’ll be listed under the Ringtones section, but don’t worry; you can use it for any of your alerts. Tap it and your iOS device will play it back once, just so you remember what you’re getting into, and that’s it.
