Church offers free space for weddings disrupted by shutdown

Church of Our Saviour/La Iglesia de Nuestro Salvador Provided

Upon learning that wedding plans for some couple’s were being ruined by the federal government shutdown, members of Church of Our Saviour/La Iglesia de Nuestro Salvador in Mt. Auburn saw the opportunity to help.

They’re offering the church garden â€" or if there’s rain, the church sanctuary â€" to couples who had plans for weddings on shuttered federal properties, from the William Howard Taft National Historic Site in Cincinnati to national parks across the country.

“We have a small garden, but it’s really nice,” says the Rev. Paula Jackson. ”We don’t know how long this shutdown is going to last … This is one thing we can do for people, who have a very important moment in their lives planned.”

The garden can hold small ceremonies only, possibly up to 60 people, if they’re standing, Jackson said. They would need to bring their own officiant.

No one has yet taken the Episcopal church, located at 65 E. Hollister St., up on the offer, Jackson said.

Couples who wish to learn more can call Jackson at 513-207-1248.
