Cantor Fitzgeraldâs Brian White is making some bold predictions about Appleâs rumored iWatch device. Instead of a smartphone companion like Samsungâs Galaxy Gear, White believes the iWatch will include home automation functions and other personalized features, says a report in Venture Beat [1] .
In a research note to investors, Â White describes the iWatch as a personal automation tool that resides on your wrist.
âAs an Apple supplier, our contact offered insight into the âiWatchâ and described this potential new device as much more than an extension of your iPhone but as a multi-purpose gateway in allowing consumers to control their home (i.e., heating/cooling, lights, audio, video, etc.)â
White says the iWatch may be able to control your music and videos, your room temperature, your security system, your lighting, and more. It would be much more useful than a wristwatch that only relays messages back and forth from your phone.
Though this rumor is based merely on information from Asian supply chain sources, it may have some credence. Apple is known for creating devices with features that enhance a userâs life, and this truly smart watch would fit in with that design philosophy. Itâll be interesting to see if Apple is entering the wearable market with a smart watch, a fitness tracker or an automation device. What do you think Apple is working on?
