Appleâs iOS 4 operating system is big news for iPhone and iPod Touch users today. In fact, itâs a big week for Apple. The iPhone 4 that everyone was scrambling to pre-order last week is coming out on Thursday.
Rumor has it that the upgrade should happen around 9 or 10am PT.
The new software is identical to what iPhone 4 owners will see Thursday, so this will give iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch owners a look at the some of the features.
The iOS 4 upgrade is free for iPhone and iPod Touch users, but if you have a first generation model of either of these devices, youâre out of luck. The upgrade is not compatible with the more outdated models. In addition, if you have an iPhone 3G, you wonât be able to use the new multitasking feature. Time to upgrade to an iPhone 4 perhaps?
How do you get the iOS 4 upgrade? Plug in your iPhone or iPod Touch and click âCheck for Updateâ in iTunes.
What are some of the new features youâll get with the iOS 4 upgrade?
Home screen folders, E-mail in-box, Enterprise, iBooks, Spell check, Larger fonts for e-mail, texts, and alerts, customizable wallpapers for the home screen, 5x digital zoom in camera, rotate photos and a whole host of other goodies. The game center is scheduled for release later this year and the multitasking feature, as mentioned above, wonât work on the iPhone 3G.
