Roadtrippers.com App Launches Just In Time For Thanksgiving Travel

The new Roadtrippers.com app syncs trips from the website to your iPhone.

Roadtrippers.com [1] â€"the new trip planner with navigation, maps and a great interface that suggests indie-owned attractions, eateries and hotels, based on your preferences, along your routeâ€"yesterday launched its free app for iPhone, just in time for Thanksgiving road trips.

“This year over 58% of holiday travel will be on the road, so the timing couldn’t be better,” noted Roadtripper.com cofounder Tatiana Parent. “This year why not take a scenic route, or stop to support an independent restaurant on the way? We can help with that!” The app, at this point, is basically a companion to the website, allowing you to sync saved itineraries to your iPhone; the full-featured version will be released by Christmas.

I did a partial test drive of the site this week by setting up a trip in preparation for an upcoming family gathering just outside of Philadelphia . After seeing the driving route, from NYC, mapped out for me, I requested suggestions within each of the following categories and subcategories: Attractions (Family, Offbeat and Scenic Points), Accommodation (B&Bs, Boutique Hotels), Food & Drink (Vegetarian & Healthy, Sweet Tooth), and Nature (State & National Parks).

The results were generally impressive. I learned about some quirky attractions, near where we were headed, that I’d never heard of: the Stoogeum [2] , a museum of Three Stooges memorabilia; Wanamaker Organ [3] , home to the world’s largest organ; a pizza museum in Philly called Pizza Brain [4] ; the Kids Bridge Children’s Museum [5] in Camden , NJ; and, for ghost hunters, a Haunted American Legion [6] . There were cute accommodations aplenty, including the Main Street Manor [7] in Flemington and the Anam Cara [8] outside of Philadelphia. Only vegetarian dining options were a bit disappointing, as it offered just a couple of options in Philly (I know of many more) and a place in Newark , Harvest Table [9] (which I was still happy to learn about), besides several in NYC. All told, the website brought a nice sense of discovery to my trip planning.
