Nokia's free iPhone maps app for already in the App Store top 10

(Relaxnews) - Nokia's maps app for iPhone went from 101st to 32nd most popular free app within 15 minutes.

Titled "Here," Nokia's free standalone maps app for the iPhone was officially released Tuesday morning and is already racing to the top of Apple's App Store chart. Within 15 minutes of its debut at 8.30am EST, it had already jumped 69 places, overtaking Pandora as the site's 32nd most popular free app in the process.

Two hours later, it was firmly in the top 10 in 8th position. Nokia's mapping technology and related services are as good as anything Google can offer and by getting an app out so quickly and, most importantly, getting it officially approved by Apple (before now, iDevice users could use the service for free by bookmarking a webpage in the Safari browser) will give it a head start against Google, who is also putting the finishing touches to its own iOS-compatible maps app.

However, whereas Nokia's offering has passed the approval process, many believe that Google's app will face more obstacles getting accepted into the Apps Store. Copyright (AFP RELAXNEWS), 2012.
