2 Great Free Apps for Mechanical Engineers!

Following a meeting between KYOCERA UNIMERCO [1] Tooling UK Sheffield [2] management team and myself, I learn that this very innovative Japanese tooling manufacturer had created two iPhone and an Android machinist app, and they are willing to offer these to our MC-Tooling site users to use as a free download.

Kyocera Android & iPhone Formula App

We were delighted to get the chance to add their apps as we have seen, like the rest of industry, a large and increasing traffic coming to the site via phones and tablets. This is why we have spent the last few months making sure our site was mobile friendly.

The first of these Kyocera apps is ‘Formula-App’ [3]  a speed & feed and cycle-time calculator for drilling, turning, and milling applications. Helping machinists to have a useful tool to carry around in their top-pocket to optimise their overall tooling/machining productivity, and it is available for both Androids and iPhones.

Kyocera iPhone ‘Crossover’ Comparison App

The second of these Kyocera apps is currently only available for the iPhone is  ‘Crossover-App’ [4]  a Carbide Grade and Chip breaker Comparison/conversion app that covers all the major carbide manufacturers’ inserts, so it is a good starting point when looking for alternative sources of supply.

We have 1000’s of listings on the site and due to the importance of apps, we made the decision to create a new ‘apps category’ [5] for both these apps, and our own iPhone app, which is currently just waiting for Apple’s final approval.

We are already seeing the benefits of us adding this new apps category with us recording hundreds of hits on these apps in the first week of putting them up.

Our objective has always been to offer a really useful resource for the metalworking industry so if you have any apps that you feel mechanical engineers would find beneficial then please contact me.

Alan
