London 2012 app offers up to 24 live streams on Apple and Android smartphones.

Want to watch live coverage of events at London 2012 while youÂ're out and about with your smartphone? Well get happy, because BBC Sport has launched an Olympics app.

The free app works with Apple and Android smartphones and offers up to 24 streams of live events, a schedule and results page, and daily news stories which can be saved so you can read them when youÂ're not online.

As well as full live streaming, the app also gives you highlights, enables you to catch-up on events you've missed and comes with a comprehensive guide to London 2012.

The guide provides you with facts, statistics and other information, and the app will generate a page for every athlete, country and sport involved, which will be updated in real-time.

Live daily text commentaries will be available alongside the news, schedule and results, which will cover every event.

If youÂ're using the app on an iPhone, you can personalise it by adding your favourite Olympic sports to the customisable tab bar, giving you easy access to the latest coverage of the events youÂ're most interested in.

Phil Fearnley, general Manager of BBC News & Knowledge, said: Â"For the first truly digital Olympics, we needed to ensure that everyone could access our quality coverage wherever they were, across multiple devices.

Â"The free BBC Sport Olympics app for UK Android and iOS [iPhone Operating System] smartphones ensures that everything you need to keep up to date with the action is right there at your fingertips. Even when youÂ're out of range of 3G or wireless, weÂ'll still be able to deliver the latest news to you offline.Â"

The iOS app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, and is optimised for use with handsets with iOS 5 or above installed. The Android app is available through Google Play and is optimised for use with handsets with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Adobe Flash installed.

A shortcut app for BlackBerry smartphones, which creates a bookmark for the BBC Olympics mobile website, can be downloaded from BlackBerry App World.

Those with handsets that use other mobile operating systems can access BBC coverage of London 2012 via the BBC Sport mobile website.
