Take a peak at the Cakephone app by watching this brief video.
Hereâs how it works. Choose âsettingsâ to select the location you want to search. You can search by city or zip code. To search by city, select âcity,â then choose the country, state, and city. Click âsave and back.â Then, select ânearbyâ to see the table of contents. Choosing bakeries will bring you to a map of blue pins, each one depicting a bakery. Zoom in on the map to identify a bakery. The name of the bakery offering birthday cake delivery is shown when you select a blue pin. Tapping the arrow gives you the address and phone number, and even invites you to write a review.
The Cakephone app is a feature of Cakephone.comâ"the premier online destination for celebrating birthdays and other special occasions. Cakephone.com is the way a new generation of tech savvy customers shops for birthday-related items like cakes, flowers, balloons, gift baskets, and party supplies.
The beginning of a birthday cake delivery business:
Liz and Tom McGinley started Cakephone LLC in January of 2012 with the idea to establish one online destination for celebrating birthdays and other special occasions Liz runs the three websites (Cakephone.com, Collegecakes.com, and Officecakes.com) and the iPhone app (Cakephone) while Tomâs entrepreneurial expertise helped get Cakephone off the ground Tom and Liz are both graduates of Loyola University Maryland. As a college student, Tom began a triumphant mail order delivery business known as Campus Cakes Inc. The pre-internet enterprise quickly grew beyond Loyolaâs campus and into neighboring colleges. It was a win/win situation. Parents loved Campus Cakes Inc.. The regional Baltimore bakery was thrilled to receive orders from all around the United States. Tom was proud that his business was a success.
?
When Tom left Loyola and Baltimore to pursue a career in Finance, he left the business to his sister Amy and eventual sister-in-law, Cathy (both of whom also attended Loyola). ?
Tom and Liz eventually found their way to New York. Once there, Liz pursued a successful career in advertising while Tom continued his career in Finance. As the Internet began to emerge as a popular vehicle for business success, Tom hooked up with a local bakery and created a website for them to sell and ship cakes to a new segment of online customers. The bakery in New York had the same positive experience as the bakery in Baltimore once didâ"happy surprise that orders were flowing in from online shoppers Taking a chance on Tom and his futuristic view of marketing, they began to take orders from all over the United States. The Wall Street Journal recognized Tomâs site as being #1 among several they reviewed. ?
Today, Liz and Tom live in Garden City, NY and with the launch of Cakephone plan to help thousands of bakeries, florists, balloon shops, gift basket shops, and party stores market their products and services via Cakephone.com, Collegecakes.com, Officecakes.com, and the free iPhone app (Cakephone).
