6th Planet for iPhone released

[prMac.com] Brussels, Belgium - Monkube today is please to announce the release of 6th Planet 1.1 for iOS devices. 6th Planet, the game fusing a full comic book story with Lunar Lander type gameplay, now comes equiped with a 100% new Story Mode (30 levels!) more tailored to the mobile gaming crowd. Update one also features full Retina HD graphics, an in-app purchase store containing two new ships (a faster one and an shielded one) and a level skip option. The 50 Story Mode levels which where liked by the press, are now found in the Master Levels. To celebrate the launch of this update, Monkube has partnered with Open Feint and Daily App Dream and will will be free to download on July 9th 2011.

(Sven Van de Perre) "After releasing 6th Planet for iPhone, we kept a close eye on consumer feedback and Open Feint statistics. And while reaction from press was very positive, we got a lot of feedback that people got stuck on a level and could not finish the story. This taught us that our focus group had too much experienced gamers in it. Next to an easier story mode, Retina graphics was second in line. We started of doing some quick patchwork fixes, but none of them got through testing. So we returned to our drawing table and made all new story mode. It took us some time, but V2.0 of 6th Planet, should be a lot closer to the best possible game it can be."

At its core, 6th Planet is an arcade game where the player has to guide a spacecraft to a landing zone without running out of fuel. Based on the Commodore 64 classic Lunar Lander, but polished by the standards gamers are used to today. The controls are kept as intuitive as possible: only two buttons are required to control the spacecraft. This gameplay layer is supported by a soundtrack consisting of nine tracks, featuring the works of ambient legends such as Gas (who also appears on the soundtrack of Osmos, a game that won almost every soundtrack award there is to win last year).

The Story Mode, with up to 50 levels, combines different gameplay styles and shows almost 200 comic screens of the highest quality in between. With the assistance of Vivifilm and comic talent that worked for the prestigious Marvel Entertainment for years, a story was created that completes the gameplay in every way. In the meantime, the story has been picked up by comic book publisher Ape Entertainment and will soon be released as a stand alone product. The release will be digitally as well as printed.
