Last year, Google unveiled its Cardboard virtual reality headset, a cheap way to get in on the rage that was VR.
At the time, Google said that Cardboard would only work with Android-based smartphones, but it didnât take long to find a workaround for that . Now, not quite a year later, Google has updated its Cardboard virtual reality headset to support even bigger phones, and also bring support for Appleâs iOS mobile platform, too.
At this yearâs I/O conference, Google officially announced a Cardboard app for iOS. With this app, as one might expect, Google Cardboard will officially work with Appleâs smartphones. The list of supported devices include:
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5c
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
Once the app is installed and the phone positioned within the cardboard headset, users will be able to check out a virtual kaleidoscope, three-dimensional environments, as well as visit virtual museums and more.
Cardboard headsets can be purchased for around $20 from a wide range of companies, including Mattel, which has a View-Master coming this holiday season .
