June 2015 desktop calendar | Free download

May was a little more difficult than anticipated. My broken iPhone brought me way down. I couldn’t really Instagram much, which made me sad, and to top it off, the iPhone malfunctions ate ALL my data by mid-month. I had to make three very time-consuming trips to the Apple Store until they finally gave me a new phone (well, it’s a new, “slightly used” refurbished phone, to be honest, but at least it doesn’t eat my data anymore). I think the worst part was the worry that I’d lose everything. I have 5,000 photos on my iPhone, as well as important calendars, notes, and contacts, and yes I do my best to back up, but given the issues I was having, each trip to the Apple Store ended with being forced to erase everything, restoring my phone to factory settings and NOT from a backup. That meant that three times in the last month, I worried that I’d lose it all if something in my manual backups got messed up or didn’t transfer over properly. It was very, very stressful because of all the “what ifs” that pass through your head when you hit the erase button. The erase button is so scary!

All those trips to get my phone fixed added to my hectic schedule, and to make matters worse, my recipes weren’t working and I hate to publish something I’m not happy with. So that all resulted in less blog posts than usual in May, which made me even sadder because since nothing was working, I thought that maybe I should just quit. I know that’s a little rash, but it really did cross my mind. I contemplated getting a job as a grocery store cashier, or better still, at a bookstore with lots of cookbooks. Of course, I applied for none of those jobs and instead I chose to pout.

I hope your May was better than mine, and fingers crossed that June will finally bring some consistent summer weather and good vibes! I aim to get everything back on track in June, including the blogging, and I’m praying all my baking troubles will magically solve themselves and/or disappear with the change of the calendar month. Today, when I turn on my oven and start a new page in my kitchen notebook, things will automatically be better because it’s June.

Chase Mobile adds support for Touch ID on Apples apple iphone mobile phone models – AppAdvice

As a result, customers from the free application are now able to sign in to Chase Mobile using Touch ID, instead of needing to enter their password in to the application’s primary interface. Obviously, this really is much simpler within England, I’ve used an identical feature on bank NatWest’s apple iphone application, also it makes the entire process of carrying out quick balance inspections while on the run far, far simpler of computer formerly was.

Chase Mobile, featuring Touch ID support and optimisation for that apple iphone 6 and apple iphone 6 Plus, can be obtained to download totally free around the Application Store.

Not sometime ago, Apple’s own Apple Store iOS application received an update adding support for Touch ID sign-inches, and before, we heard that the Touch ID-outfitted apple iphone 5c (or perhaps “iPhone 6c”) might be scheduled to produce later this season. For the time being, Touch ID can be obtained around the apple iphone 5s, apple iphone 6, and apple iphone 6 Plus, too for the iPad Air 2 and iPad small 3. Apple’s fingerprint scanner has yet to help make the leap to the Mac platform, and also the lately released Apple Watch presently utilizes a four-digit passcode for security verification.

Browse the up-to-date application now, or see: Today’s applications gone free: Cleu, Dark Parables, OftenType and much more, In case your arm is moving, Watch OS 1..1 won’t record your heartbeat every ten minutes, and delightful music puzzler Har•mo•ny 3 is starting around the Application Store this June.

Chase describes, in the app’s release notes, that particular features will still need a password to become joined, so that as 9to5mac adds, Touch ID support isn’t available once the universal application is running around the iPad Air 2 or iPad small 3 rather, it’s restricted to the apple iphone only. This newest update, however, has additionally introduced full optomization for that apple iphone 6 and apple iphone 6 Plus, which should please lots of customers.

Chase Mobile, the iOS application which enables Chase clients to check on their account balances, send money, and perform numerous further actions, has gotten an update adding support for Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

Chase Mobile [1] , the iOS app which allows Chase customers to check their account balances, send money, and perform a number of further actions, has received an update adding support for Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

As such, users of the free app can now log in to Chase Mobile using Touch ID, rather than having to enter their password into the application’s main interface. Of course, this is much easier; here in England, I’ve been using a similar feature on bank NatWest’s iPhone app, and it makes the process of performing quick balance checks while on the go far, far easier than it previously was.

Chase explains, in its app’s release notes, that certain features will still require a password to be entered, and as 9to5mac adds [2] , Touch ID support isn’t available when the universal app is running on the iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3; instead, it’s limited to the iPhone only. This most recent update, however, has also brought full optomization for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and this should please a lot of users.

Not long ago, Apple’s own Apple Store [3] iOS app received an update adding support for Touch ID sign-ins , and before this, we heard that a Touch ID-equipped iPhone 5c (or even “iPhone 6c”) could be scheduled to launch later this year . For now, Touch ID is available on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as for the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. Apple’s fingerprint scanner has yet to make the leap to its Mac platform, and the recently launched Apple Watch currently uses a four-digit passcode for security verification.

remix the iOS app-launching animation

BlurryLaunch Featured

BlurryLaunch is a simple new jailbreak tweak that adds a a smooth blur effect to the app-launching animation. The tweak, which is available for download free of charge from Cydia, includes several blur themes to add custom colors to the launch animation as well. Watch our video walkthrough to see how it works in action.

Once you install BlurryLaunch, venture over to the stock Settings app to configure the tweak’s preferences. Inside of the BlurryLaunch preference panel, you’ll find a kill-switch for enabling or disabling the effects of the tweak, and a themes panel. Inside of the themes panel, you’ll find half a dozen different themes to choose from. The themes include:

  • Cloudy Blue
  • Vibrant Green
  • Smoke White
  • Fuchsia
  • Vermilion
  • Gold Yellow

Although BlurryLaunch includes a respring button in its preferences to apply theme changes, as noted in the description on Cydia, you don’t actually need to respring to enact the changes. If you just wait a few moments after switching themes, or launch an un-launched app, then the theme should kick in to effect without necessitating a respring.

As stated at the outset, BlurryLaunch is a simply tweak, and it’s not going to add any additional functionality to your iPhone. But regardless of that, I like it. It’s free, which is a growing rarity these days; it’s easy to use, and its effects are fairly subtle.

What do you think about BlurryLaunch? Would you consider using it?

The Ultimate Guide to Deleting, Merging, & Hiding Contacts on Your iPhone

Organizing contacts is a bitch, especially on the iPhone. Some contacts will have multiple entries, you can only delete contacts one by one, and certain types of contacts can't be deleted at all. If that isn't enough to make you pull your hair out, then I don't know what will.

Thankfully, there are many ways to clean up the messy contacts list on your iPhone and finally get organized. Below, I'll be covering easy ways to delete multiple iCloud contacts on your iPhone or from your computer at once, as well as simple methods for merging multiple contacts without any fuss.

How to Delete iCloud Contacts on Your iPhone

Before we get to merging contacts and dealing with Facebook ones, let's first go over how to delete all of the unwanted contacts on your iPhone. There are four different ways of doing so: deleting them one by one on your iPhone, deleting them en masse through iCloud on your computer's web browser, deleting multiple entries at once using the Contacts app on your Mac, and deleting them in bulk using a third-party app on your iPhone.

Method #1: Delete Single Contacts on Your iPhone

Apple has a way to delete contacts natively on the iPhone, but it's a major pain in the assâ€"and you have to do them one by one. Note that you have to have Contacts toggled in Settings -> iCloud in order to sync to iCloud and other devices.

  1. Go to the Contacts app.
  2. Select the contact you want to delete.
  3. Tap on Edit.
  4. Scroll down and tap on Delete Contact.
  5. Select Delete Contact again to confirm.

If you're trying to more than just a handful of contacts, this method will be a headache and take way longer than it should. Skip to the second method below to learn how to delete multiple contacts at once on your computer.

Method #2: Delete Multiple Contacts from iCloud

Not sure why they haven't implemented this feature directly on the iPhone, but Apple has a way to delete multiple contacts at once through any web browser on your computer (Windows or Mac).

  1. Sign into iCloud.com [1] using your Apple ID.
  2. Go to the Contacts app.
  3. Hold down on Command (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows) and select (left-click) all of the contacts you want to get rid of.
  4. When ready, either hit the Delete key on your keyboard, or click on the gear icon at the bottom left and select Delete from the menu.
  1. You will then be asked if you're sure you want to delete the selected contacts. Click on Delete and they'll be removed.

Method #3: Delete Multiple Contacts in the Contacts Mac App

Using your Mac computer, you can also use the Contacts app to delete multiple contacts at once. Note that you must have iCloud set up to sync Contacts on your computer, which can be done in the iCloud section of System Preferences.

  1. Open the Contacts app.
  2. Hold down on the Command key and select (left-click) all of the contacts you want to get rid of.
  3. When ready, either hit the Delete key on your keyboard, or right-click on any of the highlighted contacts and select Delete Cards from the menu.
  1. C lick Delete on the popup to confirm.

While the contacts disappear instantaneously from the Contacts app on the Mac, it will take several minutes for them to be deleted from your iPhone.

Method #4: Delete Multiple Contacts on Your iPhone

If you don't want to use your computer, there is a way to delete multiple contacts directly from your iOS device, but it requires a third-party app called Cleanup Duplicate Contacts [2] by Business Contacts Solutions.

  1. Open the Cleanup Duplicate Contacts app.
  2. Go to Contacts to view your entire list.
  3. Select a contact by tapping on the pencil icon in the top right.
  4. Tap to select the contacts you want to delete.
  5. Hit the trash can button located at the bottom.
  1. Confirm by tapping Delete # Contacts on the popup.

How to Delete Facebook Contacts on Your iPhone

If you've signed into the Facebook app on your iPhone, you more than likely have Facebook contacts in your Contacts app. On a contact's info page, you can tell they are from Facebook by the small Facebook icon in the bottom left of the contact's photo.

Infuriatingly enough, you can't delete Facebook contacts from the native Contact app. If you go to a Facebook contact, tap Edit, and scroll down, you won't find the option to delete the contact.

While you can't delete Facebook contacts individually, you can hid all of your Facebook contacts from the Contacts app. There are two ways to do this.

Method #1: Hide Facebook Contacts in the Contacts App

This option will remove them from the main view, but will give you easy access to them should you need it. This method will also work for hiding other contacts groups, such as Gmail, Yahoo, and individual contacts folders for iCloud.

  1. Open the Contacts app.
  2. Select the Groups option in the top left.
  3. Uncheck the All Facebook option.
  4. Tap on Done.

Method #2: Prevent Facebook Access to the Contacts App

If you know you never want to see your Facebook contacts in the Contacts app, you can disable Facebook access to it.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on Facebook.
  3. Toggle off Contacts.

How to Merge Contacts on Your iPhone

Sometimes we add new entries for an existing contact, whether it's because they got a new number, we forgot we already had the contact saved, or because a new entry was added when you merged your contacts with another contact list, like Gmail or Yahoo.

Whatever the reason, you've probably got multiple contacts of the same person that don't need to be on your iPhone. Let's merge those contacts with the methods below.

Method #1: Manually Merge Contacts on Your iPhone

Just like deleting a contact, Apple has a second-rate way of merging contacts natively on your iPhone. I'll be merging the two contacts below, which have different contact information, but are the same person.

  1. Open the Contacts app.
  2. Select the contact that you want to be the main one of the two.
  3. Tap on Edit.
  4. Scroll down and tap on "link contacts…."
  1. Select the contact that you want to merge with it.
  2. Tap on Link in the top right.

The second contact you linked will now be gone and merged with the first contact. Inside of the main contact, the two contacts will appear underneath the Linked Contacts section.

Method #2: Automatically Merge Contacts on Your iPhone

Cleanup Duplicate Contacts [3] , the app I used earlier in this guide to delete multiple contactse at once, can also be used to automatically merge contacts.

  1. Open the Cleanup Duplicate Contacts app.
  2. Tap on Analyze to find all of your contacts. (It says Re-Analyze for me because I've already done it once.)
  1. Results will appear, showing the amount of total contacts, as well as any full duplicates (identical information) and partial duplicates (some information shared).
  2. Select Review Duplicates to see contact names and why they match (shared email address, number, home address, first name, etc.).
  3. Uncheck any that y ou do not want to merge.
  4. Select the Merge option the top right.

Method #3: Automatically Merge Contacts from Your Mac

Finally, we've got Scrubly [4] , an application that allows you to perform a deep cleanse on your contacts to automatically merge contacts. Note that this app is free for up to 250 contacts; if you have more than that, you'll need to pay $20.

  1. Go to the Scrubly site [5] and click on the Try It Free button.
  2. Create a Scrubly account.
  3. Select the Address Book (for Mac) option.
  4. Give it a name and download the Mac client to your computer.
  1. Grant access to your contacts; your contacts will upload to your Scrubly account.
  2. You'll then be redirected back to the online client of Scrubly to choose between an Express Scrub and Deep Scrub. If you choose Express Scrub, it only takes a few seconds and combines only a few contacts. If you choose Deep Scrub, it will take longer and requires your involvement, but merges more contacts together. I'll be going over Deep Scrub below.
  1. After selecting Deep Scrub, choose options such as scrubbing for contacts with company names, contacts with phonetic name matches (John an d Jon), contacts with matching addresses, and more.
  2. Deselect any contacts you don't want to merge, then select Auto Merge selected contacts. You can also choose Manually review duplicates if you're not sure.
  1. Optional: You can connect your Facebook and Twitter accounts and have information added to your existing contacts, such as birthdays, locations, employment, and more.
  2. When the cleanse is finished, you'll be able to see how many contacts were updated, merged, and deleted.
  3. Download your new contact list to your computer and the Mac client will then ask if you want to replace your existing contacts with your new clean one.
  1. Hit Apply and your contact list will update on your computer, as well as on your iPhone after a few minutes.

Enjoy Your Organized iPhone Contacts

Now your iPhone should have a list of completely organized contacts, with all the ones you wanted gone deleted and all the multiple entries merged into one. Are there any other apps out there that you use to solve the issue of messy contacts? Let us know in the comments below!

Wallpapers shot on iPhone 6

Apple World Gallery wallpaper splash

The iPhone 6 boasts Apple’s most impressive mobile camera to date. As part of the campaign to show off the newly developed technology, Apple created a “Shot on iPhone 6 World Gallery [1] ” on its webpage. The gallery includes many stunning photos of different subjects, three of which are highlighted in today’s Wallpapers of the Week section.

Last week, we also included two images taken from the iPhone 6 World Gallery. After receiving several requests via Twitter for additional images, I found the following on a Spanish site, Botgard. Step inside for the latest downloads. [2]

Wallpapers shot on iPhone 6

As I mentioned, the following three images were sourced from Botgard. As the article is in Spanish, I cannot tell how exactly they were able to find the images in iPhone 6 resolution of 1080 x 1920. Because the images were most like pulled directly from the Apple site, originals cannot be gathered. Consequently, the image quality varies by image. However, having a slightly lower quality image may be acceptable for some, just to have the image at all. Take the images below with a little understanding that the quality is probably as good as it gets, without having access to the original photos shot by the listed artists.

Top Free Strategy Games for PC

Strategy games and the PC are just made for each other. With the precision of a mouse and the power of a good graphics card, the depth and complexity inherent to their design can be fully fleshed out into massive, expansive worlds that offer hours of entertainment.

These are a few of our favorite strategy games that you can play for free on the PC today.

Hearthstone [1]

Not since Texas Hold’Em has a card game gained so rapidly in popularity across all walks of life. According to Blizzard’s latest investment call, the Hearthstone playerbase currently enjoys a roster of over 25 million monthly card sharks, a number that only continues to swell as more people get hooked on the “deceptively simple, insanely fun† game.

The game is similar to many other CCGs in the same category, such as Magic the Gathering. You build a deck of thirty cards using one of nine different classes (Mage, Shaman, Druid, and more) that you think will have the best chance of beating your opponents.

Equal parts devastating frustration and jubilant triumph, Hearthstone takes all the best elements of tabletop CCGs and throws them into a giant number generator to see what comes out the other side. Because the game is digital, many of the card effects can be randomized, meaning no two matches ever play out exactly the same as the last.

So strap on your card playing gloves and get ready to pray to RNGesus, because Hearthstone is free to play [2] on your PC, ta blets, and phones today.

League of Legends [3]

Born out of a mod for Warcraft 3 back in 2005, the MOBA (short for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) genre has come to dominate the F2P PC gaming scene in the past few years, with titles like Heroes of Newerth, Heroes of the Storm, and DOTA 2 flooding onto our desktops by the handful.

On the outset, the premise of League of Legends is simple. Two teams of five players fight each other on a battlefield containing three lanes. Neutral monsters, or “minions” periodically feed down each lane, and players try and kill as many as they can while also trying to kill each other at the same time. As minions die, gold is gathered and levels are gained, items to increase stats are bought, which can then be used to beef up your character when you eventually start fighting as a team.

Lightning fast reflexes combine with relentless action to provide an adrenaline-fueled ride that entertains from start to finish. The skill curve can be punishing for newbies, but LoL’s tutorial and co-op system make it easy for players of all ages and backgrounds to ease into things before diving into a full on 5v5 on Summoner’s Rift.

At current, the developer Riot Games boasts over 110 million players who sign into the game at least once per month, making League not just the most popular game right now, but the most popular game of all time.

Personally, I’ve been doing battle on the Rift for almost four years now, and haven’t spent a dime. As long as you’re happy learning the ropes on the stock rotation of free weekly champions, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll be able buy your favorites using the in- game currency to play as often as you like in ranked and unranked matches, online or off.

Download League of Legends [4] for free today.

Starcraft II (Arcade) [5]

If you ask anyone who’s older than 12 what the quintessential real-time strategy game of our era is, Starcraft is the answer you’ll get.

Starcraft wasn’t the first of its kind, with other series like Command and Conquer and Age of Empires predicating it by almost half a decade by the time it came out in 1998. It was, however, the king of the RTS genre for the next ten years, with perfect mechanics and a deep meta-game that continued to evolve through patches and expansions.

Now we have Starcraft II which, while imperfect in many ways, still has an amazing custom game scene that you can dive into free of charge. The Starcraft II Arcade is filled with highly-addictive fan-made maps like Squadron Tower Defense, Nexus Wars, and Marine Arena. Each incorporate wildly different play styles into their strategies, and on their own are enough to warrant the cost of what you’d get with the full game.

Set up a free account with Blizzard’s Battle.net service and download the Starcraft II Arcade [6] without dropping a dime.

Stronghold Kingdoms [7]

Part Civilization V and part Clash of Clans, Stronghold Kingdoms has a healthy population of players which will keep you on your toes as everyone fights and duels it out for complete control of a map containing gold to gather, villages to plunder, and armies to fight.

You start with a meager castle, a few workers, and a dwindling amount of resources, and use those to slowly start amassing an empire. Explore the outer reaches of the world to feed your growing city, but be careful, because that’s when you’re most vulnerable to being attacked.

Alliances can be formed and broken between rival players, and although the graphics may be a bit outdated, there’s enough content here to make up for any losses in image fidelity.

You can find Stronghold Kingdoms on the Steam store [8] for the low price of free-99 today.

Epic Arena [9]

Epic Arena takes everything we love about the Heroes of Might and Magic series and melds it together with Magic the Gathering-style card mechanics into one, polished package.

This turn-based strategy game starts you out on a hexagonally-divided game board with a pre-established set of units that you use to face off with your opponent. The game is all about posit ioning, and carefully choosing which engagements you take to optimize the power of your army as a whole.

Upgrades and power-ups are acquired through individual cards which can be earned after each victory or loss. By managing how your soldiers gain levels and equip gear, you can create thousands of different styles of armies, like a burly set of bruisers who take the fight head on, warlocks who use spells and trickery to outwit the opponent, or thieves who use movement and agility to keep the enemy in the dark.

The game is built with your choice of a single-player campaign, or multiplayer arenas with leaderboards, seasonal resets, and a ranked system which ensures you’ll never bet matched with anyone too far outside of your skill level.

Epic Arena is available through the Steam Sto re now [10] .

There’s A Kung Fury Game So You, Too, Can Take Down The Kung Führer

By Chris Priestman . May 30, 2015 . 2:02pm

After being Kickstarted [1] , the over-the-top ‘80s action comedy Kung Fury was recently unleashed on to the internet [2] as a 30-minute fireball of head explosions and laser raptors. Now, there’s also a videogame based on the film called Kung Fury: Street Rage.

It has you playing as the film’s martial arts master and renegade cop Kung Fury as he travels back in time to beat up the Nazis including, yes the Kung Führer â€" that’s Hitler himself, of course. And,it’s all made to look like you’re playing it on a low-fi arcade monitor from the 1980s.

It plays like One Finger Death Punch [3] , meaning that you only have to press left and right to throw punches and kicks at your opponents as they enter from the sides of the screen. As simple as that may sound, it’s a game that requires precise timing to pull off a string of combos. If you take damage three times then the game is over.

You can purchase Kung Fury: Street Rage for $1.99 on Steam [4] . It’s also available to download for free on the App Store [5] (iOS) and Google Play [6] (Android).

The new Photo Stream feature lets you take a photo with an iPad or iPhone and it appears on the Mac automatically. For Facebook fans, there are new ways to organize and publish your photos to social media sites, all made easier and friendlier. CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOAD has always been a popular app, and the latest incarnation continues a steady stream of versions with new and useful capabilities. While there are third-party apps that perhaps provide a little more editing capability, CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOAD 11 has what most people will want, and more, in a slick package. A very nice upg rade to a popular package. CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOADMe is an app that jailbreaks (unlocks from a specific carrier) your iPhone. It allows full access to all functions built into the iPhone, as well as some apps that are not available through the App Store. CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOADMe is itself not available through the App Store but is on many download sites including the authors’ sites. Before running CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOADMe you should make a backup through iTunes so you can restore the iPhone to its original state should you have problems with CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOADMe or any app installed once broken. Installing the app is as simple as

running the download and then the phone is broken. You can configure your phone and apps using Cydia, then your phone has no ties to any provider or supplier. We tested CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOADMe on both an iPhone 4 and a 4S and it worked cleanly on both. CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOADMe is probably the easiest and least exp ensive way to jailbreak your iPhone, but do make a backup before starting (and be ready to restore if you run into problems). CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOADMe worked cleanly for us, and we were running apps only

You can zoom in and out using standard gestures. The CAM350 C RACK FREE DOWNLOAD interface is friendly and easy to use, and there are some neat capabilities such as a landscape mode for monitoring. We ended up using that mode on an iPad propped up on our desk most of the time. We tested CAM350 CRACK FREE DOWNLOAD with a local Hikvision system and could control up to 16 devices remotely (although only 4 can be seen at a time). The configuration and setup was easy, once we provided the credentials for the DVR. Which is Better? Printed vs. Digital Quilt Books

Just recently I experienced a massive digital wake-up call that forced me to acknowledge a new truth â€" digital books CAN be better than print.

download printed comicsMarvel Comic and Marvel Comic App [1]

I received a free digital Marvel comic book as a bonus for attending the new Avenger’s Age of Ultron movie on opening weekend. I downloaded the app, created an account, loaded in the access code for my free comic, and was soon thoroughly entertained by comic images specially spliced to display in small chunks over my iPhone.

Suddenly I had a strange thought â€" I’m enjoy ing this more than the last time I paged through a real comic! The images were crisper and in most cases displaying larger and with better color on my phone than they would be on a printed comic book page.

I enjoyed the experience so much I kept the app and have returned to it again and again when I wanted a quick fix of a good story and cool art. Quite beyond my expectations, I really prefer the digital comics over the physical printed editions.

printed craft books

Falling in love with digital

It’s important to understand how shocking this is to me â€" I love physical books. I want to turn the pages and smell the ink. I’m a bit of a book abuser: I fold down the page corner to mark my place, write in the margins and underline sentences I like. I crave a tactile connection with the physical book that, up until this experience, hadn’t found in digital books.

This feels like a revolutionary transformation because I’m a self publisher and I’ve spent thousands of dollars over the years on cover art, book layout design, and eye-watering print costs because I feel so loyal to creating printed books. Why am I messing with all this expense when a well-designed digital version could provide a better experience and be far cheaper to produce?

365 free motion quilting designs bookYes, there will always be some books that you really want in print, and I like to think I’ve gone the extra mile to make my books stand out from the crowd. I also know the early days of digital download delivery were fraught with glitches, which still makes many quilters war y of purchasing digital content to this day.

Price of shelf space

But there’s a hidden tax to purchasing printed books: Space.

craft book shelvesPrinted books, especially big craft books, take up lots shelf space, and add weight and clutter to your home. This past week I was forced to reassess my craft book collection and purge more than 60 books from my shelves.

This was a challenging project because I really wanted to keep all my books, but they just weren’t being used enough to justify large amount of space they were taking up.

Had this collection been purchased digitally, would I ever need to do this? Digital books only take up a few kilobytes on my computer and I can easily store them in my Dropbox account [2] . I could potentially keep hundreds of books, with the added bonus of never having to dust them!

Subtle switch to streaming

In the middle of my craft book purge, I noticed my messy DVD shelf and caught myself wondering, “Do I need any of this stuff anymore?”

Between Netflix and Amazon Prime, most of these shows and movies are available as streaming online video. So long as my internet connection is working, why do I need to keep this messy collection of plastic DVD cases on this shelf?

The same is true for audiobooks. In college, I crated my entire collection of Harry Potter cassette tapes, plus tape player, from room to room. Now I can access thousands of titles from Audible.com [3] and download the book I want to hear to my phone anytime.

In the case of movies, music, and audiobooks, the switch to downloadable or streaming content was an easy and convenient choice to make. These days I’m able to enjoy more content, listen to more music, watch more movies, but store far less as physical “stuff” in my home.

Printed craft books have been my final holdout, but I can see clearly that this will be changing, too. Quite apart from anything else, I don’t want to build another collection of cool books I love, only to run out of space to enjoy them.

So what is your take on digital verses print? Which do you prefer to buy and why? Share your experience in the comments below and explore!

Let’s go quilt,

Leah Day

Review: SNAPSEED is Back - With Grunge!

One of my favorite iOS photo editors, Snapseed [1] (free), has just pushed out an update that adds back a feature that had been killed and was sorely missed. Complaints must have been overwhelming to Google/Nik software, so the filter has made it back to the latest version.

What’s New?

Snapseed has been a favorite editor of mine since it first launched. It’s powerful, and it’s free. Improvements in this latest version include the ability to copy, paste and hide Control Points when using the Selective tool. It easily allows you to work on a particular part of an image and see the changes without committing to a save. Similar tools are in the Nik suite of apps that run on both Mac and PC platforms.

The latest iOS version also allows you to export flat copies of your images so they can easily be opened in Lightroom and file sharing apps like Dropbox. Google also say the app has several performance and stability improvements, along with better rendering in Snapseed’s terrific HDRScape filters.

Using the newest Snapseed

I gave the app a spin and found it responsive and there weren’t any bugs I could see or crashes. For my daily use, I really wish the app had a white balance control in the Tune Image feature. To me that seems like a significant omission.

The returning Grunge filter is nicely implemented, with an almost infinite array of variations. I took a photo of an old window at a ghost town and was pleased with how I could age and stylize it. Nice to have that feature back.

HDRScape â€" probably my most used feature in Snapseed, has increased range and variability, but as it was, Snapseed did about the best single image HDR renders I’d seen on any platform.

Photos are saved in native resolution, but that can be cropped and re-sized.

The Bottom Line

Snapseed is certainly the best free photo editor around, and with the recent release of Pixelmator ($4.99) for iPhone I think it’s possible to work from those two apps and have the ability to do just about anything you could dream of with iPhone photography.

It’s also good to see Snapseed evolving, and listening to customers who sometimes have better ideas than the developers.

Snapseed works in portrait and landscape mode, with on-screen controls rotating to support your choice. The only part of the app that lacks this consistency is when you load your image. Your photos only orient properly from portrait mode. The save dialog works in either position.

I can’t say enough good things about Snapseed. I hope Google continues to support it and add new features and power. This update enhances app performance, and returns the Grunge filter which was much missed by many.

Snapseed requires iOS 8. It’s a universal app, and it is optimized for the latest larger iPhones.

Highly recommended.

KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD

KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD
This makes the KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD app an attractive first option whenever you have something you want to share. As impressive as KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD is, though, there are still areas where it could improve. For one, it’s only available via mobile app. There is no Web-based interface where you can read and post updates. Second, the photo sharing is weak. Neither the iPhone nor the Android version offers cropping, zooming, or other editing features. Also, as of now, only the iPhone version can post videos, which is baffling. At this point, it seems to me like the biggest obstacle new KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD users face is getting friends onto the network. Still relatively new in the social-app space, KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD can be a tough sell to longtime Facebook devotees. Overall, if you’re looking for a simple app to keep you in the loop with only your closest friends and family, KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD is the answer. It’s beautiful, powerful, and at the moment seems to be growing very quickly. KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD (iPhone | Android) is available as a free download from Google Play and from the App Store. KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD for iOS may not be as sophisticated as other desktop word-processing apps, but it packs plenty of punch when you just want a way to produce nice-looking documents on the go. After only a few minutes playing around with the controls, we were able to create documents with stylized text,

imported images, tables, and graphs, and make formatting changes on-the-fly, all using the touch-screen keyboard. The program comes with 16 Apple-designed templates to start from, including standard letters, letters with photos, resume layouts, project reports, and many more. With Apple’s keyboard dock connected, KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD performed much like a word processor on a desktop computer, with the one major difference of using the touch screen, rather than a mouse, to perform formatting and other file management actions. On the iPhone, a newly added Smart Zoom feature lets you focus in on the job at

hand, but the smaller screen real estate makes working a little cramped. Still, it’s definitely convenient to be able to edit documents quickly on your phone. KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD offers several text-formatting options right in the ruler at the top of the screen. Change fonts and font size, bold or italicize text, underline words, and more all from the top of any document. If you want to change Web standard heading and text sizes, highlight the text in question, touch the “i” button at the top of the screen, then scroll through the available options. This particular set of menus is where you’ll find text allignment options as well as useful tools for creating lists and other layout options. Alternatively, fonts can be changed using the same menu, but you’ll need to scroll to the bottom to select Text Options to change fonts, font size, and text color for your selection. Though KINGS FONT FREE DOWNLOAD for iOS doesn’t have as many features as a desktop word processor, the features it does have are both useful for writing on the go and smart. A button in the top part of the interface lets you bring in images, tables, and graphs with only a few touches of your finger. Once placed, you c

App Watch: power pack

App-Watch-Banner

I like to think of myself as a power user when it comes to my apps and devices, and although that term isn’t always applicable, I’ve spent hours in Workflow [1] trying to craft recipes that will save me precious seconds later on, and I enjoyed doing so if for nothing other than the self-satisfaction when I get to run a handmade workflow and watch it perform beautifully.

Today’s App Watch has a couple power user apps to help streamline your day (and an app to make you a powerful user), and I hope, once we’re done, you’ll be as excited as I am to use these apps in the future.

Drafts 4

Drafts-Apple-Watch

Apple left a few of its stock iOS apps off of Apple Watch, including Notes, which could have been useful for quickly taking down thoughts or referring to something previously written. Despite this shortcoming on Apple’s end, Drafts 4 is an excellent text-editing app that has received the Apple Watch treatment, introducing a convenient way to read and take down notes.

If you’re unfamiliar with the iOS app, Drafts is a powerful app that integrates with Workflow, Evernote, and several other services to use x-callback-url actions to automate various tasks. If that seems over your head, don’t worry â€" the app makes a great text editor for markup or simply plaintext. In fact, I’m writing this article using Drafts on my iPhone, and it’s fully compatible with iPad as well.

The Apple Watch app is naturally much simpler than all that, but it makes quickly viewing existing notes, prepending and appending text to them via dictation, or creating entirely new notes all easy tasks. You can unleash the power of Drafts 4 [2] on your device for $9.99.

CARROT Fit

CARROT-Fit-Apple-Watch

A couple weeks ago, I featured CARROT Weather for its unique, if not diabolical, Apple Watch companion app that offered more glance-able information than many other weather apps I’ve tried. With CARROT Fit, the human-hating AI is back to lash us meatbags into a non-spherical form.

Fit takes users through a “7 minutes in hell” workout, which includes a variety of tastefully-named exercises designed to induce sweat and melt fat. Be careful not to end your workout early, or you’ll enrage your computer overlord, which will require extra work for appeasement.

The Apple Watch app displays the current workout, your time left to complete that workout, and resting times in between workouts. Initiating a workout must be done from the iPhone app, unfortunately, but having the current activity displayed on one’s wrist is much more convenient than having to check a phone periodically during the workout.

CARROT Fit [3] is another great member of the CARROT line of the world domination-minded AI, and you can purchase your digital overlord for $2.99 in the App Store.

Spark

Spark-Apple-Watch

It’s been a long time since I’ve been truly happy with a mail app. iOS’s stock Mail application works and has received some nice features in the last couple years, but it lacks many power user features. Mailbox concentrates on reaching “inbox zero” which encourages a clear inbox, and its snooze features and Mac version are nice, but the app still has its issues. Google’s Inbox sorts email into categories and brings other polished features to iOS, but it’s Gmail-only and doesn’t have a unified inbox view.

Just when things were getting rather dark, Spark burst from the ashes to become my favorite mail client to date. It’s iPhone- and Apple Watch-only for now, but we’re likely to see a Mac or iPad release before long. I could go on for countless paragraphs talking about the various power user features of this app but will instead focus on the WatchKit app.

The initial view poses three main buttons for viewing new items in Spark’s Personal, Newsletters, and Notifications â€" three smart inbox cards into which Spark sorts incoming emails â€" and scrolling down reveals the usual inbox, pinned (flagged), archived, and sent sections. Tapping on any of these shows a list of the emails they contain.

Viewing an individual email shows its entire thread (if applicable), and users can reply with the “thanks” or “got it” canned messages, an emoji, or dictated text. There are also buttons for snoozing the email to a later date, archiving it, or deleting it.

While email might seem cumbersome and useless on an Apple Watch, Spark does an excellent job of providing quick, relevant options directly on users’ wrists in a beautiful package. This is definitely an app I’ll be using a lot in the future, both on my iPhone and Apple Watch, and I highly recommend you give the free Spark app [4] a try.

If you’ve found a particularly nice Apple Watch app you think I should feature on App Watch, send me an email at timothy@idownloadblog.com or leave a comment below.
