If all went according to plan, youâre probably running iOS 7 across all your devices now. So, the next logical step is to go download-crazy, right? Luckily, Apple just made it easier than ever to download from the App Store even if your running on cellular data. By doubling the cap restriction [1] , the App Store will now allow for downloads of up to 100MB when you attempt to get an app over cellular.
Appleâs decision to up the MB limit most likely has some reasoning behind it. For one thing, the advent of the iPhone 5s and iOS 7 gives developers more power than everâ"and the predicted outcome is bigger, more robust applications that will inevitably take up a bit more space on our devices⦠So, while properly manage your available cellular data is still up to you, apps that exceed 50MB will no longer be out of the question when you find yourself operating outside of a Wi-Fi network.
This most recent increase to the download cap comes about a year and a half after Apple last upped the cap from 20MB to 50MB [2] ⦠The new 100MB limit applies for devices running iOS 5.1 and beyond. And beyond just apps from the App Store, the new standard means you can also feel free to pick up an iTunes product that pushes 50MB.
Enjoy your newfound download freedomâ"just be cautious of exceeding the data allowance you buy from your carrierâ"which is presumably the same as always!
