GV Mobile + updated with Google Voice VoIP calling and new interface

gv mobile 3

Good news Google Voice users. One of the more popular clients for the service, GV Mobile + , has just received a significant update with several new features and improvements, including an all new interface and support for making free VoIP calls.

The GV client has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, bringing the app to version 3.0, with a new UI that appears to be designed to fit in with the new iOS 7 aesthetic , and the ability to make free phone calls that won’t use your minutes…

From developer Sean Kovacs [1] :

“GV Mobile + 3 was built from the ground up to offer a more streamlined interface, elegant design, and includes features users want the most.

VoIP Calling
We now include data based (VoIP) calling using your existing Google Voice number. So whether you are on an unlimited data plan or always on WiFi, you can take advantage of this new calling method without sacrificing your cellular minutes. We still offer call methods for those that have a lite data plan with an abundant amount of cellular minutes.

Notifications
We listened. Notifications we’re a pain to setup and the benefit only existed when the app was closed. Notifications in GV Mobile + 3 are extremely simple to setup, as they should be. We provide an automatic setup process for those that rather not endure the pain of doing the steps manually and for those adventurous types, step by step pictorial guides. Not only is the process much easier, but you’ll receive notification when the app is closed or opened, so you’ll never miss an interaction. ”

Additionally, Kovacs says that GV Mobile + 3 includes new ‘smart gestures.’ For example, if you’re in the SMS  screen, swiping to the right gets you back to the main screen. Or if you want to quickly dial someone, a simple swipe reveals your favorites.

Overall, it sounds like a fantastic update to what many believe is the best Google Voice client on iOS. So if you use the service, however frequent, you’re going to want to check it out. You can find GV Mobile + 3 in the App Store [2] , for the iPhone, for $2.99.
