iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak Will Bring Google Maps: Google Working On Own iOS Maps App | The APPera

The name Ryan Petrich should ring an instant bell for you if you’re in the jailbreak community. He’s the developer behind tweaks like FullForce and RetinaPad.  The latest news from him is that he’s been able to get the iOS 5.1 version of Google Maps running under iOS 6 .

The Next Web is reporting that [1]  he has confirmed a jailbreak will be required for the tweak, and even then he admits that it is crashy, and only currently works on the iPhone 3GS.

Given that the iPhone 5 has already fallen to hackers, it would not surprise me if this port is released on the Cydia Store for jailbroken devices in the near future. If Apple Maps doesn’t get its act together soon, Cupertino will have created a very good reason for Apple users to jailbreak their devices.

Since iOS 6 was released, Apple has been met with criticism regarding it’s new mapping service, complaining about inconsistencies and errors in the maps. Users are still waiting for Google to release a standalone application on the AppStore.
