Belmont residents launch iPhone app that showcases in-store sales - Belmont, MA

Former Belmont residents Peter Christodoulo and Thayer Christodoulo Meicler launched a free location-based iPhone app called SaleSorter that lets users see which physical retail stores nearby are having major sales.

The app lets consumers browse sales on a list or a map, as well as search by location, store, or

category of sales.

Users can upload sales they see and share sales on Facebook, as well as set alerts for when favorite store locations have sales.

SaleSorter seeks to offer consumers and retailers a tool to cut through the clutter of daily email blasts from stores, deals and flash sales, most of which are deleted as spam.

The goal is to help consumers find what they are looking for anyway on sale.

In addition to aiding consumers, the app helps retailers reach a captive audience of potential customers and to bring in new customers.

Notably, SaleSorter’s app offers small businesses a free marketing platform as they can upload their own sales in just a few seconds.

About the creators

SaleSorter was co-founded by Belmont-raised brother-sister team Peter Christodoulo and Thayer Christodoulo Meicler.

Christodoulo, 32, and Meicler, 30, both lived in Belmont from birth until they went off to college.

Christodoulo now lives in London and Meicler in San Francisco.

Christodoulo participates as the company’s chairman, with Meicler serving as CEO and overseeing daily operations.

Both attended Harvard College and Meicler is a graduate of Harvard Business School.

“We are a community of like-minded sales shoppers, we let you browse, post and share sales on a fun, interactive platform. We are excited to continue growing the product and to create a mutually beneficial tool for consumers and retailers,” said Meicler. Added Christodoulo, “It’s a better way to put consumers and retailers together. You wake up every day with 20 emails about things you don’t want to buy. Consumers want stuff that matters and don’t want to be bothered by digital clutter.”

Peter and Thayer’s parents, Pamela and George Christodoulo, continue to reside in Belmont since 1978.

“We’re incredible excited about the opportunity as we see SaleSorter begin to realize its tremendous potential,” said Pamela. “But we’re even more excited that our children are working together.”

SaleSorter was founded in Feb. 2012 and serves consumers and retailers across the U.S.
