Free iPhone app calls up dangerous products, recalls

The new, free app Recalls Plus for iPhone and iPod Touch will help parents and consumers avoid dangerous products.

The app is a one-stop shop for recalls from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture and other agencies. You can research recall histories by brand or product category, such as cribs or bicycles, or set-up a personal watch of particular items, such as strollers and car seats. You can also track allergy-related recalls.

Recalls Plus, for instance, could have helped alert folks about the recent recall of South Florida Bakery’s coconut macaroon cookies, also known as “Coquitos.” They were sold at Publix stores across Florida and were recalled in December because of an undeclared milk ingredient that could induce allergy attacks.

Recalls Plus is available for free at the Apple App Store.
