SEGA, one of the worldâs most notable video game publishers, has decided that many of the games it has available for mobile devices arenât good enough.
As a result, the company has officially announced via a public blog post that it will be removing titles from the iOS App Store soon, but doesnât actually reference which titles it will be pulling. This doesnât just affect iOS users, either, as SEGA also confirmed itâs pulling the games from the Google Play Store, Samsung App Store and even Amazonâs Appstore. The reason? These titles apparently do not meet SEGAâs âstandards.â
âAt SEGA we are committed to making fun, high-quality mobile games and it is with our fansâ best playing experience in mind that we announce the removal of a number of games from our back catalogue. It is important for us to ensure that all of our fans, regardless of platform or operating system, have a great playing experience and after evaluating our complete list of titles, we have determined that a number of them no longer meet our standards. As a result, we will be removing these titles from the App Store for Apple devices, the Google Play Store, the Samsung App Store and the Amazon App Store over the next few weeks. While we have nothing to announce at this time, given the right situation, these titles may return in an updated form.â
While the publisher doesnât actually say which titles are getting the axe, it did say that anyone who has already purchased one of the games will still be able to play them on their devices, and that they will be able to download them again from the purchased section of the appropriate app store.
The silver lining comes in the form of SEGA saying that they could, some day, rerelease the games they pull in an âupdatedâ fashion. When that might be, though, is anyoneâs guess.
Nintendo, on the other hand, is preparing to launch quite a few new games for iOS (and other mobile platforms).
