Apple Pay is coming to Las Vegas hotels next month, but not for gambling, and The Cosmopolitan is leading the way. According to the hotel-casinoâs official announcement cited [1] by Casino City Times, by early June the resortâs front desk, concierge, restaurants and bars will accept Appleâs wireless payment method.
Cosmopolitan chief marketing officer, Lisa Marchese, states that âthe arrival of Apple Pay on the Las Vegas Strip is a natural fit, offering increasingly mobile-centric, luxury travelers a streamlined and convenient experience.â The announcement marks the first local casino-resort to accept Apple Pay. The Cosmopolitan is part of Marriottâs Autograph Collection of hotels. [2]
âAs always, we are thrilled to lead the market with a new component to a Las Vegas experience that makes everything a bit faster and a great deal easier,â Marchese said in a statement quoted [3] by Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Again, Apple Pay wonât be accepted at Cosmopolitanâs gambling tables and slot machines.
The Ritz-Carlton is listed [4] in Marriottâs previous Apple Pay announcement. Appleâs âWhere to Use Apple Pay webpageâ lists [5] Marriott-owned Edition and Renaissance Hotels, but curiously makes no mention of the Ritz-Carlton.
LA Times is reporting [6] that the wireless NFC terminals at the Cosmopolitan will also accept Google Wallet and other forms of electronic payments.
At the time of this writing, more than two-hundred U.S. banks and credit unions supported Appleâs mobile payment service [7] .
