In this day and age, personal safety should be everyone’s number one priority.

Even if you live in a safe area, danger could be lurking right around the corner. It might sound like something out of a movie, but unfortunately crime is everywhere.

Luckily technology has advanced and there are apps that watch out for us when we’re in trouble.

Silent Beacon [2] is a must-have free iPhone app that not only keeps track of your location, but it allows you to quickly and easily contact multiple people in case there’s an emergency.

Concept and Functionality:

Keeping some sort of emergency app handy might seem silly because you think you’ll never need to use it.

Far too many people believe “It’ll never happen to me”, but if it does you have to be prepared.

Silent Beacon, developed by Silent Beacon Inc [3] ., helps iPhone users contact anyone, even 911, in the event of an emergency.

To start using Silent Beacon, you’ll need to create an account using your first and last name, phone number, email address, and password.

You’ll receive a 6 digit code to verify your phone number, and once that’s done you can set up your first emergency contact.

From there, you can either begin using Silent Beacon immediately or fine-tune settings.

This includes calling 911 if the beacon is activated, customizing SMS and email messages, and much more.

Personally I found the app to be incredibly easy to set up and navigate, so much so that users could download it and have the app running within a couple minutes.

Features:

From multiple emergency contacts to being able to send distress messages multiple ways, it’s clearly obvious that Silent Beacon was created with user safety in mind.

Users can even choose to keep the GPS running in the background, but this option will likely drain battery quickly.

Therefore, it’d be best to keep the GPS running constantly only if your device is plugged in (for example, while driving).

Also, Silent Beacon is completely free to use and doesn’t require a membership or in-app purchase in order to use all of the features.

This is truly great, as many similar apps do require users to pay for features.

Value:

Silent Beacon is available to download from the App Store for free and is designed for iPhone. When it comes to safety, there should never be any sort of price to pay.

Silent Beacon definitely doesn’t skimp on features and functionality simply because it’s free to use, which is fantastic.
