Bye Bye Bae? - B97

For 40 years, the folks at Lake Superior State University have been suggesting that certain words be banished from the English language.

It’s officially known as the List of Words to be Banished from the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and Uselessness.

This year’s list includes:

  • Bae â€" one consonant short of “babe”
  • Polar vortex â€" legitimate but overused meteorological term
  • Swag â€" gifts given for showing up somewhere, usually
  • Curate/ curated â€" “a pretentious way of saying ‘selected’” is what one voter wrote
  • Friend-raising â€" related to fund-raising in some way
  • Cra-cra â€" another way to say “crazy”
  • -Nation â€" as in “Sox Nation” or “Packer Nation”
That’s not the entire list, and there’s nothing that says the suggestions have to be followed.

I don’t think it’s going to bother Pharrell Williams much. His “Come Get It Bae” seems to be doing quite well with the word…
