10 Must-have iPhone Apps

Cyberdust
With the tagline “Every spoken word isn’t recorded. Why should your texts be?”, Cyber Dust is the newest brainchild of tech mogul Mark Cuban. The events of the past few months have some people looking for more secure alternatives to Snapchat, and Cyber Dust can certainly fill that role â€" but with its more professional focus and fully-encrypted messages, it’s also suitable for other uses.LinkedIn Pulse
RSS is a technology that sounds great on paper but doesn’t have the mass-market appeal one might expect. In part this is because it simply isn’t very engaging: most RSS feeds are simple lists of headlines. Pulse, on the other hand, presents feeds composed not of headlines but of photographs. For those who are happy with their current RSS solution, this may be a solution in search of a problem; for those who RSS has never quite clicked with, Pulse is an excellent choice.

Dropbox
Known to many as the original file-syncing service, Dropbox is a free solution for keeping files available on all your devices. Your synced files can be accessed from a folder on your computer or through the iPhone app, and can be downloaded for offline use â€" or even viewed within the app itself, for many common file types.

Evernote
Evernote has established itself as the most popular note-taking service by an extraordinary margin â€" which means that you’ll be able to access the notes you take on virtually any device. The Evernote iPhone app works well and has all the features integral to the Evernote experience. The user can quickly review old notes, easily create new ones, and share the notes through email or text, among other options.

Instagram
Instagram is a bona fide cultural phenomenon at this point: used by millions to share photos of everything from fine cuisine to silly expressions, Instagram and its distinctive filters are essential additions to any smartphone. The iPhone app is well-designed and easy to use. It allows users to share their own photos or browse those of others.

TED Talks
If you don’t know what TED is, then keep reading: you’re missing out. TED Talks are brilliant and engaging presentations given by some of the smartest people around â€" experts in their field who share their research with you. The presentations are available on their website, but it’s much more convenient to browse them from the dedicated app, which allows you to save your favorites and browse for suggestions that fit your mood and schedule.

Amazon Mobile
Amazon’s popularity is due to its success in combining great prices with a universal marketplace for virtually anything you want to buy. This marketplace becomes even more accessible with the Amazon iPhone app, which allows you to shop online wherever you are. The app also features a barcode scanner to allow you to compare prices in person and online.

Mailbox
With Mailbox, Dropbox is branching out from its file-syncing service to provide an attractive, unified interface for email. Its clean and efficent interface allows access to the usual suite of features: emails can be moved (by swiping) to arvhices or the trash, or put off until later. It also boasts excellent integration with Dropbox, which makes sending large attachments a breeze, even on a slow mobile connection.

Facebook Messenger
The Facebook Messenger app makes the Facebook chat experience more useful and more usable, serving a function very similar to an SMS app â€" even allowing you to make VOIP calls for free to your Facebook friends. The Facebook messenger app as a whole is often a superior alternative to carrier-based texting.

Spotify
Spotify, which once required a paid subscription to use on mobile devices, is now free to use on all devices â€" millions of songs are available to stream for free. There are only a few limitations on this: albums are shuffled rather than played sequentially, with a limit on the number of tracks that can be skipped each hour, and you cannot download tracks for offline listening without paying.
