There’s no questioning that TaiG and the Pangu teams have stepped up to the plate to deliver what some consider to be the most fluid and easiest jailbreak utilities ever created.  The teams have aided millions of iPhone, iPod touch and iPad owners the world over to enable root access, install Cydia and the plethora of third-party tweaks that accompany the aforementioned distribution platform.
Initially, prior to TaiG, the Pangu team were first on the scene to rush to the public’s rescue by issuing the original iOS 8 jailbreak that functioned on up to 8.1. However, as always, in the eternal game of cat and mouse that Apple instigates with jailbreakers, the company issued iOS 8.1.1 to the public to close the vulnerabilities Pangu utilized to achieve the first jailbreak for iOS 8 with their 8 .1.1 firmware.
Quickly following iOS 8.1.1’s release famed hacker iH8sn0w released a video demonstrating that he could potentially jailbreak 8.1.1 on the older iPhone 4s, iPad 2 and iPad 3, but that it was limited to said devices at the time due to “no serial over lightning [being the connection type that all new iDevices utilize]â€.
However, in doing the above, the hacker may have “batted the bee hive†so to speak, prompting the TaiG team to take action in spite of the fact that iH8sn0w had no plans for an imminent release. After having the glory stolen from them by Pangu the group all but rushed in to save the day by releasing the iOS 8.1.1 jailbreak to the masses, a firmware that many industry watchers thought would remain un-jailbroken given its relative insignificance when compared to either 8.0 or the upcoming 8.2 firmware.
That brings us to the present â€" recently, Apple released iOS 8.1.2 which luckily didn’t patch any of the vulnerabilities exploited by TaiG in their 8.1.1 jailbreak. The TaiG group promptly updated their utility to support iOS 8.1.2 in the jailbreak.
TaiG version 1.2.0 is the latest Untethered jailbreak that remains unpatched, it supports the following iOS-based devices:
- iPhone 6 Plus
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 5s series: 5c, 5
- iPhone 4s
- iPad Air 2, 1, iPad Mini 3, iPad mini 2, iPad Mini, iPad 4, 3
- iPod touch 5th generation
TaiG also supports the following firmwares:
- iOS 8.1.2
- iOS 8.1.1
- iOS 8.1
- iOS 8.0.x
For those concerned about whether TaiG is safe to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2, MuscleNerd (a prom inent hacker that’s a member of the evad3rs: the team who jailbroke iOS 6 and iOS 7) gave the utility his official approval following its release.
