Apple has failed to tackle connectivity and security problems with the iPhone 6 and older-gen devices at its second attempt, user testimonies suggest, as the gadget-maker faces its biggest PR meltdown since Antennagate .
On Friday, iOS 8.0.2 was made available to download . The freshly baked version of Apple’s software was intended to nix glitches with lost connectivity over 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi across a range of iDevices.
The network reception problems only appeared after Apple issued the previous iOS 8.0.1 version of its operating system to address a series of flaws that owners reported with the fault-ridden iOS 8 software that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus shipped with.
Even a cursory survey of Apple’s forums reveals the extent of the problem, with a slew of threads testifying to iOS 8.0.2’s unworthiness for market.
One such complainer, JLEI170, claims that he has completely lost Touch ID functionality since grabbing iOS 8.0.2. Another claims that the update has caused “problems with my cellular reception on iPhone 5s and no service appears every few minutes.â€.
Apple, which broke form to apologise over the glitches that beset OS 8.0.1 and immediately withdrew it, has yet to acknowledge any glitch with iOS 8.0.2.
But given that it’s already got enough on its plate dealing the fallout of claims that the iPhone 6 Plus is prone to bending out of shape when put under pressure, that’s probably not too surprising.
