New reports suggest only more expensive 4.7-inch iPhone 6 to be unveiled next month

Apple this morning sent out invitations  for a media event on September 9th, where the company is expected to unveil the iPhone 6 and a new wearable device. We’ve heard conflicting theories on whether or not we’ll see one or two new handsets on stage, but a new report out this afternoon suggests the former.

According to website GforGames, “informed sources” are telling Chinese media outlets that only the 4.7-inch version of the iPhone 6 will make an appearance at the event, alongside a new 5s model with 8GB of storage. Apparently the larger 5.5-inch iPhone will make its debut later this year in limited quantities. [1]

In a second report the site points to a scoop [2] from MovilZona, who has sources inside Spanish carrier Telefonica that say both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions will be very expensive. The source claims the smaller iPhone 6 will cost 750 Euros ($988 USD), and the 5.5-inch 950 Euros, though it doesn’t specify storage.

While we have heard that Apple may charge a premium for the larger iPhone 6, we’ve seen little in terms of pricing as a whole. We’ve also heard conflicting intel regarding the 5.5-inch iPhone and the iWatch launching this fall, as reports of production issues and few part leaks have spurred speculation of serious delays.

Bloomberg, however, is reporting this afternoon [3] that both the iWatch and larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model are a go for next month’s media event. Apple is of course keeping mum on the details, but it renting out Cupertino’s extra-large Flint Center to host the keynote suggests that whatever it has planned, it’s going to be big.
