Facebookâs visual messaging app, Slingshot, has seen quite the attention since its launch earlier in July , and now the app has received its first feature-rich update to make using the app even easier for users.
When Slingshot launched, it had a curious methodology for actually communicating with other friends using the app. If you sent a âshotâ to a friend, they could only view what you sent them if they replied with a picture (or video) of their own. Thankfully, the developers behind Slingshot figured out that that was a bit convoluted, and have changed things up a bit. Now, users can view a picture or video sent to them just by replying with a quick snippet of text. They can still view the image or video by sending a video or image of their own, of course, but at least the option is there.
You can also now connect your phoneâs Contacts list with the app, as well as your Facebook account, to either find users already on Slingshot, or invite them to use the app to help you pass around more visual messages. With the My People section, you will be able to see all your contacts in a simple, clean interface.
The app has also been improved to run faster, smoother and more reliably. The developers say that you can take crisp, clear videos faster than before, too. As usual, bug squashing was also part of the update.
Slingshot is still a free app available in the App Store now, and you can find a direct link to it through the source link below. This particular app is just one way that Facebook is trying to keep people using standalone messaging applications to stay in touch. The company recently killed Facebook Messenger support in their stock app , so users were forced to switch to the standalone Messenger app. And, even more recently, Facebookâs Instagram launched yet another image-centric messaging app called Bolt , with a soft launch in specific countries.
Have you tried out Slingshot yet? What do you think?
