It has taken well over a year but Facebook has finally launched Facebook Messenger for iPad. Â The update to the instant messaging app came today as an update to the app already in the App Store, making it a universal build for both your iPhone and iPad. messages with friends on Facebook. Â All of your recent conversations are kept in the Recent tabs while you can create groups such as one for your family, quickly and easily on the Groups tab. Â Facebook Messenger for iPad also has all the fun bits you would expect to be there like stickers and the ability to phone calls to friends using the app.
Having tried out the app a bit this morning, it feels and functions just like the app for iPhone so there is virtually no learning curve.  If you’ve used Facebook Messenger for iPhone then it will be a breeze on iPad.  A couple of notes of interest so everyone is aware.  First, you will need to download Sticker packs if want to use them.  Stickers are per device so even though you have loaded them on your iPhone, they won’t appear on your iPad until you download the again.  Secondly, phone calls can only be made to Facebook friends that have exposed their phone number on the service.
As far as calls go, I personally find the quality of FaceTime Audio better than Facebook Messenger but of course your mileage will vary based on your own WiFi or GSM network conditions.
