Developer of Geeksn0w teases Unofficial Pangu Jailbreak for iOS 8 beta

Pangu Jailbreak

It may be way too early to talk about an iOS 8 jailbreak, but BlackGeek, developer of Geeksn0w, the tethered jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1 for iPhone 4 has just teased a jailbreak for iOS 8 beta.

He says that he plans to release a jailbreak for iOS 8 beta 1 and beta 2 based on the Pangu jailbreak.

It is not clear if he has successfully jailbroken iOS 8 beta. He also hasn’t provided an ETA yet, but claims that he needs a permission from the Pangu team before he can continue. He also points out that he hasn’t copied from the original source, but has used the same exploit used by the Pangu jailbreak and bundled modified Pangu’s resources for his tool.

Hackers tend to avoid releasing a jailbreak for beta versions of iOS as it would expose the exploit or exploits used by the jailbreak, and could be patched by Apple before the major version is released to the public. However, now that the Pangu jailbreak is released, it doesn’t really matter if a jailbreak is released for iOS 8 beta, as the exploit has already been exposed.

Security researcher and hacker Stefan Essar aka i0n1c who has successfully jailbroken iOS 7.1.1 , and whose exploits were used by the Pangu team for the untethered iOS 7.1-iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak, had also said that Apple hasn’t patched any of those exploits . It also remains to be seen if today’s release of Pangu jailbreak v1.1.0  which makes use of different exploits will change BlackGeek’s decision. It is also possible that Pangu team will release a jailbreak for iOS 8 beta if it does not result in burning any new exploits.
