12 apps for iOS on the agenda

I’ve noticed that the pool of apps to pick from when creating App Recap becomes progressively larger as the week goes on, especially because Apple refreshes the App Store with new games and apps on Thursdays. Tuesday is one of the more challenging days, but don’t worry: we still sift through all of the fluff and highlight the best new, updated and discounted apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We’ve got 12 apps for iOS on the agenda this time around. Check out the list… 

New Apps

Great Little War Game 2Great Little War Game 2 [1] is a game where you command your troops wisely to prevail in a massive 60 mission campaign that will try to prove you cannot. As you progress in the turn-based strategy game, there are several unlockable items and upgradable units to help you out. Great Little War Game 2 is $2.99 on the App Store [2] and is a universal app for iPhone and iPad.

Contact BoxWe receive an interesting app in our inboxes once in a while such as Contact Box [3] , and sometimes it is nice to give a smaller developer some attention. Contact Box allows you to instantly share your contact lists with others with just one simple tap, which is great for managing sports rosters or office employees. Contact Box is free on the App Store for iPhone [4] .

SpendbookSpendbook [5] is a new personal finance tracker with a well-designed user interface for tracking your expenses and income. Its main features include intuitive charts that break down your spending into categories, an informative calendar for expenses, multiple account support, editable categories and subcategories and more. Spendbook is $1.99 for iPhone [6] .

Updated Apps

Skype 5.0Yesterday we told you that a facelift was coming to Skype [7] , and today the app received a brand new design as planned. Skype 5.0 features a sleeker user interface, up to five times faster performance, cross-platform read receipt syncing and the ability to start group chats from the hub. The cross-platform VoIP and messaging service is free for iPhone and iPod touch [8] .

Screens VNCScreens VNC [9] lets you connect back to your Mac, Windows or Linux PC from the living room, coffee shop or anywhere you wish. Access your files, stay synchronized through iCloud, use touch and trackpad modes and more. The app was bumped to version 3.4 with Dropbox support, improved user authentication and more. Screens VNC is $19.99 for iPhone and iPad [10] .

KindleAmazon has updated Kindle [11] for iOS to version 4.3 this morning with several new features. Most notably, customers owning both the Kindle and Audible versions of an audiobook can now listen to the title right in the Kindle app. You can now switch comfortably between reading a book at home or at work. Kindle is free on the App Store [12] for iPhone and iPad.

WalmartBig box retailer Walmart [13] has updated its app to version 4.3 with redesigned item pages that make it even easier to shop and save. You can now find an item’s availability in a store near you, learn if it qualifies for free shipping, read customer reviews and find similar items in one place. The official Walmart app is free on the App Store [14] for iPhone users.

TwitterTwitter [15] was bumped to version 6.7 yesterday for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, which begins on June 12th. There is now a World Cup timeline where you can keep track of all the soccer â€" or football â€" action as it happens. Follow tweets from your network, and see relevant tweets from teams, players, coaches, press, venues and more. Twitter is free for iPhone a nd iPad [16] .

Discounted Apps

Smart Safe ProSmart Safe Pro [17] is a secret photo folder, private browser and password keeper with full security and anti-hack protection. The app has been discounted from $2.99 to free for a limited time, as part of an “App of the Day” promotion. Choose between a PIN code, dot lock, numeric or alphanumeric passcode. Smart Safe Pro is free on the App Store [18] for iPhone and iPad.

Crazy WheelGo for a ride and be the fastest squirrel on earth in Crazy Wheel Rider HD [19] , a new game on the App Store revolving around a flying squirrel named Mr. Squeaky. Help him outrun the great wheel by jumping from wheel to wheel, with easy to learn one-finger control. Crazy Wheel Rider HD is free for iPhone and iPad [20] , down from its regular 99 cents price tag.

The WalkThe Walk [21] is usually $4.99 in price, but a special sale has it discounted by 40% off to just 99 cents for a limited time. The fitness tracking and game hybrid app, designed by the NHS and UK Department of Health, involves walking the length of the UK with a package that could save the world. The Walk is 99 cents on the App Store [22] for iPhone.

Inner WorldLast, but certainly not least, is The Inner World [23] . Robert is somewhat clueless novice with a heart of gold. He lives a peaceful life as a court musician, and one day he takes off alongside the mysterious chief Laura to discover the secret of the wind’s appearance. The Inner World has been discounted to 99 cents for a limited time< /a> [24] , down from $2.99. iPhone and iPad.

If you haven’t checked it out already, we also posted a list of the best apps for the 2014 FIFA World Cup . The entire world is about to go into a soccer craze for the next month as countries from around the globe compete in the month-long international tournament. The World Cup is held once every four years, and this time around it is taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
